Sanitarium Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 so i did a hair trick for my ex's daughter (my .. ex step daughter?.. anywho) no i didn't get it on camera. now to the point of the thread i got out of the truck and seen this.. that coil was laying on the ground, 1 end of the wire attached other was not. listened to the speakers and they seemed to still be working. So is this bad? what does that coil actually DO in a crossover?
iKidwell Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 i've never seen this happen, but i'm gonna say its not good. c'mon now, if i was shooting an 8 year old, it wouldnt be MY 8 year old. i recently got a Pyle PL1590BL and i was building an enclosure for it tuned to 25 hz. i didn't have any tools to cut a circle so i hit it with a big hammer. 2003 Infiniti G35 Sport Sedan Build in Progress

Chris from Mi Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 looks like the coil isnt burned up. I bet you could wind it back up, solder the broken end and glue the shit out of it to the x over case. 2nd order of buisness would be to get those x overs off of that box, prolly why it broke in the first place. the coil is an inductor which filters out the high frequencies going to the mid driver, which is probably why you didnt notice a difference, but i know if you put your ear right next to each one you would notice a difference.
