Personally that hard to breath affect has come from over 150 db at anywhere between 33hz-43hz. Now getting that out of a trunk will be difficult it takes ALOT of power and air moving. and for lower frequecnies then travel farther needing more distance to travel to get the full wave to complete. its going to have to deal with your box ALOT. get think of how water flows and go from there

ok but isnt it possible for something to sound loud but not hit a high score on a meter? SPL and loundness are 2 totally different things are they not?

extremely true. A friend of mine who has done 150's got into my truck and said i was a 149 which i knew i would but from the sound of it thats what he thought and i only did a 146.1.. My systems ALWAYS sound loud but SUCK on the TL. I was just put the 150's mark up there because the vehicles i've sat in that can make it hard to breath have done over 150's on music. They are Randy's(Assman's) Van this was the most intense feeling vehicle ever to me. Next was Gary Tuner's? Van when he had his PSI reconed subs and he could only play Juice box but the punch in the song took my breath. Then Beejay's cavi which does 156 i believe sealed up can sometimes get my breathing to be difficult

if im going to do something im going to do it right lol, i have all the electrical down pact and the batteries thats all taken care of. i just want to know the science behind it all, because one system might sound different is 2 different cars so that tells me that there has to be something else behind it.

if it is the EXACT(impossible but you get my drift) and it sounds different then that has to deal with cabin gain of the particular vehicle. The shape of the inside of a vehicle will effect the sound of the system greatly

ok so is there a program where i can see how sound frequencies move in a specific type of cabin? or does any1 on this site have it? i dont want wht i can a " 6 piece of wood box " i want a box that is made for MY car.

not really going to happen with a program there is only one true way to figure out where your cabin peaks at and reacts to certain frequencies. build your setup.. the same way the subs will be but have it sealed. Install and test it on a tl through all the frequencies. Find which is loudest. if you want get extremely loud there then build a ported box at that frequency. If you want to gain on the lower end tune lower to where you want your box to pick up the low end. if you want the high bass tune it higher. these are the simplest ways to get what your looking for.

Another option is a 4th or 6th order bandpass but im not getting into that

Water likes to flow with the least resistance. So does air. Think or a river and how it has formed over the years. its formed there naturally because it has the easiest path.

ok and do i build the box by the sub specs? the problem is when i wanted to face the towards the rear, the box didnt fit in the car because when the trunk meats the cabin its only about 33'' wide and 16 1/2'' tall.

wasn't there some company (it may be acura, but i don't think it's them) that did designs that specifically ported/directed airflow into the cabin? i remember they had a setup with 3 8"s in plexiglass tubes going into a box, and the guy who got the demo was blown away, said it sounded like 15's were in the back seat

I think that was PWK designs. He had 3 8's in a homemade aeroport box. IIRC.

i have been trying to do my research on sound waves and how they work. thing is im coming up empty due to my lack of knowledge on car audio and how sound frequencies move about the cabin. my goal is to give people watery eyes and that hard to breath effect when the bass hits. i have gone through many ideas for my system, and what i really want to do is face them forward with the port forward with the trunk sealed off( like i said in a previous post ) but like i said i want HARD hitting bass, bass you wouldnt expect from 2 12's. the question is how to i go about doing this? do i measure out the entire cabin from the front windshield to where the box will be then from door to door? what do i do to achieve these goals?!? please help!
