fecupe2001 Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Share Posted April 12, 2013 Wow this has to be one of the best, if not THE BEST thread here on smd - I have never spent so much time on a single thread It was shown to me by another member after explaining my goal of reaching 150db from 149.3. I got another comp this Sunday and am excited to try out some of these tricks to see if I can get my 150. First thing gonna take that carpet off my box and then flare the inside of home made aeroports.... I can't believe I took the inside flaring for granted wow... oh and the ground straight from the battery! Im all excited now! Plan to build the same exact box in a few weeks anyways but with birch this time instead of mdf.... hehe nice to read such a positive comment, people like you were the reason i continued testing so many things hehe, glad you like the topic!!! Those are definitely some nice gains, the carpet can get you a couple of tenths, but yes the flares on the inside should be your biggest gain , also, you can´t see it on this topic since i haven´t updated anything yet, but, i tried 2 grounds from rear battery to chassis and gained .2 dbs also, along with the run from the front battery to that second battery you should get a NICE gain!!! Can you please keep me updated?????? would love to know if you reached the 150 mark by doing only those 2 or 3 things on the topic, i´ll be looking forward to hear any news about you! Ive heard of people losing by doing that as well. Putting a smooth coat of fiberglass on the inside should give me a little better airflow.. not always, every application is different, we actually did this a couple of weeks ago on my buddie´s toyota yaris, boxes were rattleing a little bit , he didn´t gain a single tenth and peak went from 40 to 45 hz, i guess the peak raised because he lost a little bit of internal space, don´t think it was because of the box resonance or something like that. It´s like the 45´s example, i´ve tested that a lot and i think it´s a big waste of time unless you are walling the car or building a non walled box for spl with everything facing forward like the europeans commonly do on pandas and small hatchbacks, that´s why i almost never glass or 45 any of my box, just build it strong and that´s it!! its one of the things you hear people talking about and saying it helps. you can alwyas try it. YOU DO NOT GET A TROPHY JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOW UP.
