Battery rating questions?

Recommended Posts

This might be a dumb question, but I've been trying to pick a battery for my car, either a second one, or to replace the starter battery. I know the basics, AGM and such, but i'm not sure about the ratings i should look for, A lot of batteries state the CCA, while some only put the amp hours, and some have an amperage rating, and some like xs power even have wattage ratings. basically i have a 1700 watt amp, a 760 watt amp, on top of the factory amp, which is probably pretty small, it's not just a HU, it has an amp... mostly i'm just wondering what ratings i should be looking for on all the batteries available? also i know i could Exceed what i need, but i'm on a budget, so i'm looking to get the one that is just big enough to handle what i'm running.

The ratings on batteries are mostly meaningless when it pertains to car audio. Assuming that you have a stock alternator and are drawing what I am going to guess about 200 amps between your amplifiers, I would just add something along the lines of a XS D3400 in the back. I would also make the big 3 upgrade and have 1 run each of +and- front to back and you will be good.

I have 0 awg big three done, but my headlights dim a bit, and i do have a stock alt. so d3400, any alternatives, i know xs is the one everyone on here recommends, but are cheaper ones, like kinetik really that much worse?

^^ this. I'd also put the biggest XS Power/AGM battery up front. I don't like mixing battery types.

After talking with jeff it seems like xs's technology is really ahead of everyone else and you can get a smaller battery to keep up with more audio for a similar price, so I've yet to find a reason not to go with xs

c'mon now, if i was shooting an 8 year old, it wouldnt be MY 8 year old.

i recently got a Pyle PL1590BL and i was building an enclosure for it tuned to 25 hz. i didn't have any tools to cut a circle so i hit it with a big hammer.

For the money XS is worth every penny. I have personally run Stinger, Kinetik, and XS Power Batteries and XS holds almost 1 volt higher than the others in my setup.

That's all well and good, but up there ^ he recommended a d3400, that's 1000 ca, 65 ah for $270, a kinetik hc1400 is the 1400 amps, and 60 ah for 139.99.... I can't say it will be the same quality, but i'm not running an SPL setup or anything, and i find it hard to believe that the kinetik won't cut it...
