David711
With my 8awg and up I never crimp and fill the terminal full of solder instead. But any smaller I crimp and soak as much solder in the terminal that I can after its crimped. i have tried that before but you are really just wasting solder. might as well crimp it to take up some space. i just give it a twist in the vice just to squeeze it some. i have not tried using my silver solder with the torch but i tried with an iron and i hated it. wouldnt flow at all. I've crimped with a vice and a couple terminals started to loosen and I thought they never would so I just use my little torch and make sure that I won't have any issues. The last thing I want to do is dig through all the wires on my buss bar for up front to find a wire that failed. I just over do it I guess "WHOEVER SAID MONEY CAN'T BUY HAPPINESS MUST OF BEEN BROKE"
Boon
3ft long crimpers, if I can't use the 12 ton hydro crimper. Crimp > solder. Takes 10 seconds and if you do it properly it's a better connection. With a hydro crimp the lug and strands merge. 10.x volts fo' life!
Alex K
Idc what everyone else says. I solder no matter what kinda wire it is. With all the vibrations in the car, shit will come loose eventually. Would you rather have a 100 story skyscraper just "locked" together, or a welded frame? Yeah. 2006 Nissan Z Track. So the fact that all stock battery connections are crimped means nothing with all those vibrations.. seller feedback: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=61719 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=68281 build log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44800 Gf's build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/54346-kickergirls-camaro-new-box-pg-5/#entry753970
Ford302Redneck
One pro of soldering is, you can reuse the terminals. 1/0's can get rather expensive.
