jbondox Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 couple of... observations First, a down firing enclosure in a pickup is very good...extremely good to be quite honest. Next, I don't know your subs, but if you are going to do it right, you might want to find a sub that will fit the enclosure, modifying everything would be counter-productive both in time and in the wallet... find a box that you are going to use and then find a woofer that meets the requirements, after all you are talking down sizing and I believe simplicity. Lastly, on the spacing of the seat... unwise... I can ramble on about why not to do it for hours... but lets look at the second statement.... "if you are going to do it right then..." as for loading subs off the floor in a truck, I have had 10's, 1 - 3 inches loaded off the floor in many installs, all with outstanding results. Now the firing forward sub, was a bit trickier, I seen a few these of my time and have done quite a few also. The advantages of it... basically you have some bass in the vehicle; disadvantages, well besides being easier to booger up, woofers aren't that linear when pushed hard, or pushed without enough power... and you can hear the woofer sounding like crap. check yourselves, have the woofer firing forward and have some put a piece of MDF about 1.5 to 2 inches in front of it so the woofer has something to load off.... definitely a smoother sound as for the polyfill, well I use it an enclosure, it is suposed to break up standing waves and also appear to the woofer that it is in a larger enclosure. However, i tried it a few years ago with and without... no differences. also I believe that Richard Clark and Dave Navarone did the same and they measures 0 differences also... i still do it though, even though physics proved it to be not a factor... maybe I believe the woofer needs a place to lay it's head when resting SMD SuperSeller VerifiedJbondoXJames Shields
Jared420 Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 So u recommend downfire over forward fire? I believe the downfire would be about an inch off the floor but I want to putnspacers on the bottom of it to hopefully get it about 2" off the floor if I do go downfire 2012 silverado ext cab ltz 24" kmc rims AudioQue 2200 Pioneer AppRadio Alpine mrx f35 4 channel Bose mids and highs Iraggi Alt + stock alt in a DC power dual alternator kit Yellowtop+stock under hood 0 gauge Knu wire Big 3 4 gauge stinger (4 chan wiring) 3 DC 10'' LVL3 with LVL4 parts

We had to rebuild the rear bench to make it work... but all in the name of music... http://www.northolmstedperformance.com/gallery/category/94-silverado-ss-av-system also some here... hoopty: Denali escalade: SMD SuperSeller VerifiedJbondoXJames Shields
jbondox Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 The bottom one was 2 RF T2-15's or 12's??? anyways it used to flex the doors it had so much bass... it was a down firing ported enclosure... the suede insert was part of the port SMD SuperSeller VerifiedJbondoXJames Shields
Jared420 Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 Those are really nice boxes, I'm just looking like you said for simplicity so I'm looking at prefab under the back benchseat downfire boxes, but like I said I'm goin to raise my seat about half an inch so I can also raise the box another half inch to 3/4 so the subs are more than an inch from the floor. The lvl 3s only need .75 of airspace per sub and the box is .97 per chamber before displacement and the subs displace .14 so it will be right on within .1 of recommended specs. I just wanted to make sure the sound will be ok with them facing down and being so close to the floor 2012 silverado ext cab ltz 24" kmc rims AudioQue 2200 Pioneer AppRadio Alpine mrx f35 4 channel Bose mids and highs Iraggi Alt + stock alt in a DC power dual alternator kit Yellowtop+stock under hood 0 gauge Knu wire Big 3 4 gauge stinger (4 chan wiring) 3 DC 10'' LVL3 with LVL4 parts
91sdime Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 I'm surprised those 10's only displace .14, I know DC's are better subs then my buddies 12's Memphis CM class. I understand it's a 12" and probably a bigger basket, but his displaces .65. But to go on with the box design, how much height are you gonna actually need for people sitting in the back because like you already know you could raise it higher to get about a 3" load off the floor. My buddy did 2 Kicker L7's in his extended Ranger, downfire about 2.5 inch load off the floor and sounded amazing except just didn't have the power to keep the Kicker 2500.1 running. I have always preferred downfire in all the trucks I have seen boxes in, and hope to see your install soon.

Yeah .14 is what the spec page says, Im only getting level 3's so there not a beast sub there for daily applications but I am going to get the coil upgrade so it can take a bit more power. I will have no problem running my aq2200 I Dont even think I will need my second battery with my alternator, I just wont have room for it in the back anymore I may figure something out to put it under the hood only if I really need it. As far as raising the seat more, I though about it and I dont really wanna have to fabricate a bracket to raise it that much and Im only 5'8''-5'9'' and my head is only a few inches from the roof as it is. Someone around 6' is another inch or 2 closer than I am so I think by just bumpin the seat up a half inch to 3/4 will help out alot. 2012 silverado ext cab ltz 24" kmc rims AudioQue 2200 Pioneer AppRadio Alpine mrx f35 4 channel Bose mids and highs Iraggi Alt + stock alt in a DC power dual alternator kit Yellowtop+stock under hood 0 gauge Knu wire Big 3 4 gauge stinger (4 chan wiring) 3 DC 10'' LVL3 with LVL4 parts

bumpinTL364 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 holy sex those are some nice boxes....this is really off the wall but I'm pretty sure I heard of someplace that used ports that actually go into the cabin of the car from the ports coming from the box. Perhaps you could do something similar, such as porting into the door panels and then porting (or not) from there, to get more cu. ft. yes i know that sounds crazy but props for ideas? masterbation is free, and even saves you money.sorry but someone had to say itsorry, Jimmy...beat you to it (no pun intended) LOLDON'T get a wife. Best advice I never got, and now it's too late My build: 12" DCON in a dorm room. New/current build: 8" woofer, custom amplifier block, fiberglassed speaker pods
