What long range forum is that?

Wasn't a long range forum just a gun forum... It's no longer in existence though

Most guys who shoot long range have gone to 260 Remington and 6.5 creed more etc. the 308 is more 6-800 yards tops..

300 win mag isn't much fun to shoot.

Of course the big bopper 338 and 50s are still there too

I wonder why the CreedMoor is so popular... Isn't a 6.5 a fairly small round?

6.5 is a .264" diameter bullet that is 100gr on the low end and 140gr on the high end

in comparison a .308 is .308" in diameter and 155gr on the low end and in some special applications as heavy as 200gr on the heavy side.

The 6.5 in it's loaded configuration is still at a Short Action length, so a simple barrel swap gave people a whole new rifle as the bolt face is the same on the 6.5 as the .308.

The 6.5 blows the .308 in its ballistic superiority. The 6.5 can achieve .300wm trajectory without the the recoil. This is all well and good as long as the mass of the 6.5 is enough to tackel the task. In the case of target shooting, it doesn't take a heavy bullet to kill paper

True that but I just figured being a smaller projectile that getting out to super long ranges it would be more easily affected by wind and other factors

Bullet construction. it all comes down to the bullets BC ( ballistic coefficient)

When a bullet is more aerodynamic it doesn't matter it's size.

That's like 4 cylinder engines of today making more HP than V8's of the past.

It's all about technological advancements and their application to particular areas
