well from what ive seen, the memory buffer goin into the proc get's corrupted for no apperent reason. I run intel all around, so i don't have an amd machine to test my theory.

ok, run a memory test http://www.memtest.org ive been looking around and it seems to happen with amd dual cores and corsair xms memory Have you changed the memory timing at all?

ok, list all the hardware cpu mobo ram hdd's cd/dvd drives vid card any other hardware. Now do you have an nvidia video card?

Try this, Turn off the standby function. Right click on the desktop, Properties, Screen Saver, Power options. If it's allready off, Make sure the hdd never spin down Re enable the screen saver and wait and see if it freeze's Waiting to see what happends -razor5070

I havent noticed a single difference in proformance from the dual to the quad. There both Screaming fast.. Either will do. I would say go dual core. More support for it. I would deffinatly rather program for a dual core, than a quad.. that's x2 more threads!

Just use the play and charge to register the controller. then unplug it from the 360.. Same thing is wrong with my neighbors elite.. he used a play and charge to register it and it worked wirelessly ever since. Glad my first gen 360 has no probs, knock on wood

Wow.... Sorry i started anything? I know how vista runs on a Fast machine... Gaming rig is a 4 GB, AMD phenom, 3870 x2 it runs fast.. And vista runs perfectly fine on this machine.. all i use it for is networking, sharing my music,vids ect with my 360 and other comps.. Aero is enabled runs fine.. never have any lag .. i just like the way vista shares it's media. If i wanted XP i would use it... i have a couple xp disk's Pro, home, 32/64 i just don't like xp. it was never a vista problem .. it was the antivirus... Avast antivirus to be exact. wasted 40$ on that... Using K7 totalsecurity now and it runs perfectly fine. Oh and i hear people all the time, downgrade ot xp this, go with xp that. I like vista... it runs great for what i need of it, and that's that.

turns out it was the anti virus... I disabled it on an off chance and it stopped... Thanks though -Getting a new antivirus btw

Resetting the bios .. didn't help honestly i don't feel like reinstalling windows again. i'll just go out and buy a new card. thanks for the help! -razor5070

Nope not a virus, Not a conflict either... Hrmm more than likley the driver. I have used 3 or 4 different drivers. Uninstalled and reinstalled .. Ehh this is a fresh install of vista .. and has been happening for a week now, i reinstalled vista hoping it would fix the problem.

Ok let's get the info out of the way: Operating system: Windows Vista ultimate Motherboard: Gigabyte K8VT800 PRO rev 0.1 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0 Ghz Memory: DDR 1 gb 2x512, 167.5 Mhz PC2700, infineon brand, 2.5V Video card: AGP, ATI RADEN 9600 XT Sound card: Realtek ALC658 Audio AC'97 in 5.1 No Aditional PCI cards Hard drive: Seagate 40GB ATA, WesternDigital 120 GB SATA Optical Drive: Sony DVD+r Burner Power supply: Okia 450 watt Well when any sound is played, it skips.. like a cd player would... every few seconds it does it. my CPU usage goes up when it skips.
