  1. ^^^ what he said If your voltage was at 12.9 when you pulled in its more than likely the alt. What does it normally run at once warmed up?
  2. Hmm mine doesnt have a square hole to "stick a ratchet into" just the welded nut or w/e you stick an 15 mm socket on. At least you got it
  3. tensioners are spring loaded Turn it as hard as you can and simultaneously pull the belt off of one of the idlers, let up on the breaker bar and remove the belt And what do you mean you have it in the slot? you put a socket on it, and turn that nut at the end of the tensioner arm and it rotates the whole thing
  4. I can't believe i have been overlooking this thread, some awesome setups you guys have over there and nice numbers too. Great work
  5. Nice setup man, looks loud. Build yourself a box and you'll really be surprised, SA-12 is a hell of a woofer. Keep it up.
  6. Your alt bracket is attached to the motor. Do like you said, clean the bracket where you connect the wire, i would suggest on that bracket the bolt thats on the driver side, the other one has the metal bushing that pressure fits the alt when you tighten the bolt. Run from alt bracket to batt negative then batt negative to frame.
  7. Always always always ground straight to frame Edit- unless you do runs to the rear like decaf posted 2 sec before I did lmao. but even then ground front batt to the frame, not chassis
  8. You're welcome Better not see anything less than a 58 @ 30hz when this goes down
  9. Which one you need depends on your specific application.. I believe xs and mechman have the identical pricing
  10. Nice find but I prefer the one stickied in the electrical section http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/1005-wirefuse-guide/
  11. Dude i already told you that box is sick... but DAMN that suburban is SEXY.. Looks great man
  12. 615-287-7991 Easier and quicker to reach him by phone. He'll get ya straightened out.
  13. Well my dads '73 stingray has the L82 350 which came stock with 9:1 and he never ran a 16 volt battery... Also my 95 Chevy K1500 with the 5.7L 350 LO5 engine has 9.5 : 1 and before my VCM i cranked at 14.9 on the coldest day of the year... I dont know a lot about compression ratios and you dont have to take my word for it but damn 6 minutes of google searching and i came up with that... And I never said anything about his alt draining the battery. I said the battery could be bad so the starter is easily draining it THEREFORE causing the alt to charge at an extremely high voltage, it was just a theory that his battery could be bad or going bad. If you wanna continue this bitching match then please continue but thank you for that small useless lesson in cranking "high" compression engines. Back to the topic on hand.. That duralast isnt the best of batteries so he might want to disconnect it completely overnight and check its resting voltage in the morning... Once again the bad battery was just a thought EDIT: one more thing, starters pull their current from the battery to turn the engine over which my resting voltage is 12.9-13.1ish, far LESS than 16 volts
  14. I think it would take a good 10-15 minutes of solid 16 volts to cause damage like that. Ever since Friday when I installed my VCM my batteries have seen 15.7-15.8 cold start and 15.4-15.5 driving and idle warmed up. Just cause its in the back of my head his battery might be going out, what alt/batt does he have?
  15. Almost sounds like his battery is dying so when the starter cranks it practically drains it so the alt is doing wayyy overkill to bring it back up and somehow manages to do that. With 13.9 - 14.2 volts warmed up he should only see 14.5- 14.7 cold start but no 16 for a few minutes wont hurt
  16. Wire each sub parallel and hook one sub to one set of outputs, second sub to the other set of outputs
  17. I have no clue what that amp puts out or what kind of load each channel will see so ill let you take a look at this and decide http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=1005 Scroll down to the part labeled "Speaker wire"
  18. Hell yeah man.. I think im going to forget about rear fill but I cant wait to see what you do with em and 250' jeeze man cant wait to see what you need all that for. Keep it commin!
  19. Hell yeah homie lookin good! Been waitin to see some work on this thing 64 1/2... Assuming with the rear side panels out? I think I remember i had 63 1/2 between the side panels Get back to work!
