  1. Please follow this ^^^ advice! Replace it with a second battery. Your alternator will thank you, if you haven't killed it already. Also, if you are dropping to 9v, increase your power cable a couple sizes thicker. Also make sure your ground is as thick as your power wire and grounded properly, to the frame or at minimum to a sanded down thick part of the chassis.
  2. Cool story bro... Just messin with ya, bro That's why I never used to brag about my system. If people ask, I say humble things like "It's an OKAY system" or "It's not loud enough for me" and then idiots usually keep their mouth shut, unless they're really a top notch prick. Some people won't keep their fucking mouth shut to save their life. It's nice when you can pull off stuff like you did and really shut them up.
  3. Hey, Steve, I have to say that is the cleanest IS-F I've ever seen. Ever. Now I know you've never been shy to throw a TL sensor in the 'hoe, but what about putting the F on a dyno? Just askin...
  4. Dude, I just caught myself watching your avatar for like 60 seconds. What the f___ are we talking about???
  5. Prayers are with the family. Unexpected death is hard to comprehend unless you been there.
  6. First off, you can see a real difference even in a 300 watt system with the big three upgrade. It goes from helping to necessary the more amplifier power you have. Transients will be clearer and less distorted, and your amplifier will experience less voltage drop. As far as the grounding, get to the frame if you can, but no matter where you do it, make sure you sand the paint off well, and use a good size nut and bolt with lock washers. I've seen people go so far as to weld it down, I doubt that overkill in this area is wasted.
  7. Damn, JVC subs are tough! Only a few hundred over RMS to kill it.
  8. I didn't say it wasn't possible, I just don't think "a lot" of people are doing one sub hair tricks. There is a lot of truth in this thread... your cabin has a lot to do with it, the box, placement, sound deadening (if the air isn't moving body panels, its going through the open window), etc. I can see 500 watts moving hair in the right setup. I can also see 2k not moving hair in the wrong setup.
  9. You need to sweep a LOT of air to do a hair trick. One part of the equasion is cone area x Xmax. The other part is tuning/port area/box volume. I don't see a lot of people doing hairtricks with single subs... where are you seeing this? links?
  10. Working nights, I had just fallen asleep when my wife saw it on TV ... she was so in shock she didn't wake me until the first tower fell. It was and will be the most surreal moment in my life.
  11. Charlie Chaplin spoke in movies??? That by the way was a great clip. I will remember and pass it on to others.
  12. ask a dumb question get the right answer...
  13. yeah i'm really interested in the JLs but i wish i could find someone who has them. I havent really heard many bad things about JL either. I've owned a few of the w1 series JLs and I do have to admit they do have a decent tonal balance. I am admittedly a JL hater, however in this case they are the best of what you mentioned IMO. I'd say the only JLs worth their salt are the entry level w1s and w0s. The WXs are rubbish and anything else they sell is marked up much higher than they're worth. EDIT: Just saw your post on power... If you adjust your gains with an o-scope or even better a DD-1 then 200 watts is fine. Getting wild with them on a clipping signal will turn them into Quiznos. I speaks froms experience
  14. If you go by how Lanzar amps are rated then they can handle 2k LOL
  15. This is the best tutorial on how to make a speaker I've ever seen, hands down. Like the OP I am thoroughly impressed. If that's how you make a sub then why does a 8w7 get $439???
  16. This thread won't die. Generally speaking: Higher voltage out, lower noise floor = better signal quality to your amp No loss in volume if you adjust your amp gains properly You are better off not running a line driver if your intention is only to overcome noise. Too much chance to encounter ground loop or does nothing for you by amplifying the existing noise already in signal. Use a line driver for splitting signal among multiple amplifiers. /thread again.
  17. Don't mean to argue, but those don't fit standard 6x9 holes top mount unless you do a little cutting. I thought about getting a pair of those because of good reviews but the oval is different. I got the spec sheet from tang-band's website. They will work in most cars that can bottom mount but the screw holes don't line up well, either.
  18. If they fit I've heard good things about Soundstream Tarantula 6x9s. Lots of low end to go around. I have the 6.5" Tarantula coaxials and they're pretty clean. They also come with a real crossover and are bi-ampable too. I know some people hate on Soundstream, but these are solid as far as I'm concerned.
  19. even with a beat I wouldn't listen to it. got 3 seconds in, and started skipping to find the good shit. Only found regular bad shit.
