More air space would just make the beats messier. I like to listen to some non-rap from time to time. But a 2.3cubicft box /w 60in^2 of port area is next on my list. It's all about experience =P

I have two MRP M-500's but I'm definitely getting some voltage drops. According to the optimum vented box specs in the Alpine Type-R manual, each sub needs 15in^2. So i'm close...

I made my first box, for my Type-R's and they blow my old prefab out of the water. It's insane. People turn their heads from 100 ft away and everybody is smiling at how loud it is or violently shaking their heads. It's soo much deeper and cleaner... It's easily twice as loud and twice as deep with three times cleaner hits. I'm a dumbass for not making one earlier! Everyone who has prefabs go make a box right now. EDIT: Please note, I built this box to alpine specs. I understand alpines do better with more port area, but I built this box with the recommended specs in mind.

Hello! I'm gonna be makin a box for my two 12" Alpines, but my trunk orientation is a little weird. I usually drive with my back seats down because it's a lot louder, and I wanna make sure this box is louder than the pre-fab I have. Here's a pretty-amateur illustration. Please excuse how bad it is, I'm more of an English/History person. Basically I have two gaps of space between the trunk the box (where the blue is), and I'm curious if it's better to keep the gaps there to help the sound get into the cabin, or if it's better to seal it off and have a wider rather than deeper box. My trunk is pretty big so I have a lot to work with. Thanks a lot, this'll be my first box build so excuse my noobness =)

Hearing it outside gives you an ego boost But also raises the risk of getting a ticket. The farther cops can hear it the more paranoid you'll be when you're driving.

You pretty much answered your own question Rose-Villain. Nobody's gonna beg you to drop 3-5k on car audio if that's not worth it to you.

If the voice coils both read the proper ohms when measured with a multimeter, and you don't see any signs of exerting its physical limits (holes in the cone, cones ripped from the suspension, etc), then the subwoofer/s is/are fine. But I recommend using the chart below and making sure the AC Volts (when measured at the speaker terminals on the amp) never exceed the numbers on the chart (aka never exceeding RMS power) Oh and turn off Bass Boost, and turn off loudness on your headunit. You can pound your subs as much as you want as long as you're not sending a clipped signal to them. Just don't exceed the AC voltage for your RMS rating.
