  1. <---Autozone employee. 6 years now. MY shop is the only one I'd go to. We (my shop buddies/co-workers) agree: if it's not OUR SHOP, 99% of the time, the guy on the other side of the counter is Functionally retarded or so NEW he still says "this is Kragen/Napa/Checker/Advance/pep boys/etc"..or wherever he got fired from last when he answers the phone. I feel your pain.
  2. Very classy and clean lookin. X2, X3 Like Steve said can we get some closer shots of the box/trunk? I'mma total box head/trunk lovin, bass-nerd so any angles you have of that would be great and where the amps are on the sides of the box if you could snap a shot or 2 ;D Nice lookin tho for sure.
  3. Not that it's that important but I realized I never mentioned my box is just a lil over 5cubes for the 4 12's in tha trunk, and I can fit golf bag full of clubs in there too w/ out using the backseat. I gotta have it functional and stock lookin till it's opened up.
  4. I dunno how much exposure you've had to this so i'll just throw as much at is as poss I guess and hope some of it helps: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ab_parts_acc...4303447,00.html http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36438 http://www.audioinmotion.com/index.asp?Pag...on=Custom&ID=14 Those are all "surface mounted" setups..which is easier, but if you really wanna hear "wow" from crowds, you can embed the trim ring in the headrest, then tuck the vinyl/leather or w/e material behind/under THAT for a more seamless install, like this: My bro's shop here in Sacramento usually does em like this cuz they do upholstry all day and cutting open/re-sewing a headrest is no biggie for them, but if you're not feeling ambitious w/ it just the surface mount should be cool. Hope that helps.
  5. SUPER DOOPER X2 ON THE BS POSTAGE. But I'm just replying as kinda a RANT since it's a dumb topic: I don't care who/what/what/when and all that "I heard of a guy"..."so and so says..."..."everybody knows..." and any of that kind of BLANKET GENERALIZATION is crapolla. There are WAY TOO MANY variables involved in building setups.Period. You can make "a crappy woofer" sound awsome and "the best woofer" sound terrible if you know enough or lack enough knowledge. It's a like a sliding scale of good/bad in either direction and I have heard W7's sound terrible and swap meet subs whoopin ass and sounding great. And vice versa as you would expect. We should all be in agreement that the knowledge behind the install is key in any setup be it SQ, SPL, or what have you. The "what is better" question, in such broad terms as comparing 2 (or any) subs SHOULD BE BANNED IMO. It only opens up the forum to trash talking of brands/types of products that leaves someone butt hurt, and makes no progress. As far as W7's being an SQ or SPL sub, if you ask JL they says it's an SQL sub as in the best of both worlds. Wheather THAT's true or not, like I said you can argue the point either way based on "what I heard/seen/read" forever to no avail. It's a stupid argument to get heated over since it's never ending (from my exp.). That said, IMO it would be EASIER to get a setup with 4 Type R 12's louder than even a single 13W7 and I bet the SQ of that setup would be good enough for MOST folks interested/willing to run 4-12's. However, I have seen a single 12W7 pull decent #'s and maintain Above avg. SQ. So just build it right and the outcome should be LOUD SQ ;D So, maybe that's all for this one..or maybe some one will try to Flame me up for acting like a know it all, but i just posted this cuz I have seen more posts like this recently about "what would fit", "how loud would this be" and "what would be louder" and those are all pretty silly Q's to ask IMO. I could be wrong, if so Flame away.
  6. Nah yall should lay off Steve with short jokes. <---This guy is a good 4" down from 5'8''. Midget status FTW. Me in 2nd on the left, Mr. Meade to the right. ...It's ok tho cuz It just makes other things look BIGGER :sarcasm:...like our TROPHIES HEHE!
  7. I should have pix in a week or so- it was for an art project that was in an art show and until the shows done i cant get pix but soon as i have some i'll post em.
  8. 4-15's in the EXT...18's in the Lade...and four more 15's in the house. Chicken sounds like my kinda guy. I pray I can "play" at that level some day. I have 2 Kicker 12's in my house getting 120w rms each and THATs pretty loud for an HT setup...but my place is tiny...so it makes sense:I'm sure Chickens house is ganksta big thus so should be his HT setup. BTW Steve-Did you design those ported boxes using BassBox pro or other software? I only ask cuz I'm curious to try out the "HOME" environment setting on BBp and see if it works like it says it does to compensate for the acoustic gains/troubles of a larger area. I know boxes I've built for home audio/car cabins DON'T perform the same in each others domain. ~2cents
  9. Good to hear! Maybe sum day I'll throw down on some Fi subs and I was just curious about their SQ functionality. I've always shyed away from "all out SPL" subs cuz that generally means SQ is out the window. From the website, which is my only exposure to them, Fi Audio seems like an SQL company and thats what i'm lookin for: loud + nice sounding. Thnx for the info.
  10. QUITE TRUE. But you're preaching to the choir (sp?) on that one ;D :W:. I'm 110% on board about the INSTALL being key-Steve's knowledge/awsome build in the Tahoe ALLOWS his "SPL ONLY" subs to still be competitive in SQ arenas. My Q is just how do they do in SQ arenas in general or in OTHER setups than Steves...ASSUMING proper install of course/IDEAL circumstances?
  11. How IS the SQ on the BTLs? Is there ANY? Its pretty hard to tell at 155+ in steve's vids and w/ cam mic, but is it at least fairly clean or just plain NASTY? Personally I gotta have SOME SQ in my daily. Any body done any sq comps/entries runnin btl subs? I know Fi has SQ subs too but RE does too and despite having the baddest SPL series of RE's Steve did ok w/ em even in SQ. I know Steve had decent sq w/ the RE's cuz I heard those, and he tied me for 3rd in SQ in Battle of the bass before... but that was with the RE's. ???
  12. I dont know about the tank in the trunk behind the seat in a 250 but I KNOW FIRST HAND it's that way in a sc300/sc400...here's the setup i did in my buddies SC300, same scenario, here's what I did: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/forums/in...hp?topic=1535.0 BTW there is no deck harness for a lexus so you will have to hard wire it.
  13. Dude check out DisDatchevyboy's link^^^^^ It even has a pic of the connector for ya. They are about a cm or 2 squarish/rectangles and the size gets cut in half when u fold em over. I'm pretty sure you can get em for w/e gauge wire u are trying to tap up to 12ga maybe?...and that will determine what size to get. Take a look at the wires ur lookin at tappin and just buy accordingly.
  14. Some day when I have an SUV w/ room for a 20+ cube box maybe it'll be "loud" till then it's a good daily driver.
  15. yes of course. I'm only the loudest in my hood by default. Nobody brings nothin ever. My only competition is the mic and thats sad. College tuition/books all that crap eats up my rebuild $$ and I'm waiting on some good whether and no "pending cars to build" before I can hit up my own car. Technically i already have the parts for the rebuild i wanna do, but i've been considering an "all out" setup too. Stuff in my next "semi-permenant" daily-driver rebuild: 4 Phoenix Gold Titanium 12's (not the Elites) 2 PG Tantrum 1200.1's 2 PG Tantrum 600.4's 2 comp sets up front same PG 2 way rears Still need: Iraggi 200amp alt An extra yellow top or 2 in the trunk. Bunch more wire/dynamatt. AND TIME.
  16. So my Indian buddy brought his Bro and a Friend of his by my shop while they were in town just before xmas. He asked if they could see my setup and have the demo cuz they never been in a loud car b4. My buddy was snappin some pix so here they are...I wish it was video cuz he tried to jump out and his bro would just stand in the door way w/ his ears covered. (Me in the Driver seat/Sac State hoody).
  17. yea X2^^ Or any male/female connectors could be spliced in and retain the stock plug/harness. It's just like unplugging it and bypassing or making your own male female "plug" out of many smaller connectors one for each wire you need tapped. The side by side taps are easiests cuz no stripping/exposed wire to mess with just lay them lil wires side by side in the grooves inside the connector and pinch it and it cuts the sheathing, attaches to the wire and closes it off cleanly all in one motion. ~2cents.
  18. yea big bore stuff is pretty rough on the wallet. .50 BMG is a grip. 7.62 aint too bad in cases and we run a buncha 9mm, a lil .38 spl, 40 S&W, .357 sig, .357 mag (just got it) and some .45 here n there. Good times but can't wait till summer and hit up the outdoor and shoot up some car parts again. I filled the hood off my car fulla holes after i switched to a CF one.
  19. -"my girl got me a 500 S&W.." NICE. She must be a keeper. My bro has a 500 S & W but it's the 1 rnd rifle and it hits ur shoulder like a sledgehammer...it's actually more UNPLEASANT to fire than his Armalite AR 50 (.50BMG) Go big or go home ;D I got Bass Box Pro (thnx pops) so I guess I'm on "the list" for box help. I havn't run it yet but once I get all savvy w/ it summertime is gonna be LOUD. :w00t:
  20. Hopefully this will be the last on the sub issue but I had a comment based on a recent funny event at work: To make this as short as possible- One of my co-workers has never heard a system louder than mine & thinks my setup (4-12's) is the loudest, baddest, craziest setup outside of world finals DB Drag & high level extreme comps (I've told him this is a load of crap repeatedly, but w/e he's "special") He runs his mouth to any and every douche that pulls up bumpin 2-10's or anything noticable that "when you wanna stop messin around and get some real beat you better talk to this guy (me) cuz his is the loudest in Sac, he always wins 1st at every comp he goes to" (not true). Some guy hears that and starts askin what I have, I tell em, and as soon as I say I run Kicker subs he starts goin off about Lanzar Pro this, and swap meet that and how kicker are SOOO WEAK yada yada yada. I told him the subs were ok for entry level stuff and they do ok for me, however I already have new subs and double the amps for a rebuild (truth). So my CO-WORKER (not me) blows up and demands this guy listen to my setup. Basically the guy did like in one of Steves vids where the guy fumbles around for the door lock and jumps out holdin his ears and said I was tryin to make him deaf and I lied about my subs bein kicker. So i showed him the trunk and we had a discussion about proper box design and the benifits of a hatchback and other enlightening audio mumbo jumbo he obviously never heard of b4. So i guess the not so short story is something about until you hear a properly built setup w/ any given product in it it's kinda dangerous to make blanket statements about it being a POS or sounding like ass or being weak, not to mention you're pretty much garaunteed to pisss SOMEONE off. I have people all the time tell me the love the way my Fosgate 15's sound and I gotta remind em i'm running 12's, and they're CVR's & yea they were $75 each shipped. Oz is nice stuff, Fi & RE have Steve & this sight to thank for some major cred, i'm not a RF fan but i know lotsa folks like the T/power series Fosgate stuff, so to each his own. ~2cents.
  21. http://sketchup.google.com/download.html Free is GOOOOOOD!
  22. Thats insane man. Congrats for being the popular kid on Playground Earth. Big pimpin fasho. Makes me think 2 things: 1: I'm glad to be a part of it "before every was on the bandwagon" 2: My only consolation over the day (gawd forbid) the bandwidth kills it...at least I still live in the same city as Steve and have a decent chance of "Getting the DEMO". He did say he'd swing the Hoe by my shop some day...and THEN they will REALLY know what's up. ;D
  23. I was at work the other day and this Home depot guy Ron Hazelton (Bob Villa lookalaike/wannabe) was on and topic/project happened to be installing a multi channel home security/monitoring setup. I had just read some you guys discussiong the home security cam setups you have and fig'd anyone looking for a how-to might find it usefull. here's the link. http://www.ronshousecalls.com/projects/Hom...tion-System.htm Maybe that's helpfull/interesting or gives you some idea-the cameras he uses look pretty tight-lense is surrounded by bright LEDs so the light/camera angle is the same=no glare and good lighting effect. ~2cents
