That semi...WOW...however...BIGTIME LETDOWN AT THE END...here's why: That's "DOPE" that they did it, and that it would be that loud from that far away, but I knew I'd be disappointed when I saw them wheelin the container out and it was sealed at both ends, and not channeled into the truck cab. They never made it a "cut through" style setup which would be SIIICK. WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND! We've seen a couple semi builds and no one has had the balls (after all that time/effort/$$$$/labor etc) to funnel it into the cab. I realize it'd be a whole different engineering task to make the "turning" function of the semi work but (DAMNIT) come on, if you're gonna go thru the trouble, go all the way. 2nd: They guy standing in the "tunnel-O-Death" ..or DEAF...wow, nice EVERYTHING flex/trick! and invest in hearing loss insurance. That can't be good for you. If it's 105DB @ 250Meters (what mic I'm sure we're all wondering) I'm curious to know what it is in the mouth of the beast. 3rd: Who here was NOT thinkin it looks like an exhagerated version of ASSMANs truck? With the exception of the "Groundpounder style" metal beam reinforcements, It very much looks like the truck w/ the 20-15's to me. The 5gallon drum setup: HAHAHAHA. Maybe it was the camera mic but it sounded dirty as hell. Maybe he forgot to reinforce the buckets? Sounded pretty nasty but again maybe just the camera mic. I recall a thread a while back bout someone betting a friend of theirs they could make a better 5 gallon drum box but I never saw the out come...did anybody catch the ending to that one? EDIT-just saw^^^ about the pvc pipe, serves me right for writin a novel. tubes are gettin quite popular but I think the only GOOD use of them I've seen is in Steel City's truck, the pioneer premier setup I think, and technically KingSUV's 16-12 setup.

Woven "cloth" is for getting "finer" details of an area or "form". Mat/chop mat (crazy strands everywhere/all directions) is for less "exact" stuff. Either will be very strong WITH ENOUGH LAYERS, but chop mat is generally "thicker/heavier" and with resin will be stronger than woven mat/per single layer. Think of it this way: If you wanted to make an exact copy of something with a very irregular surface like your keyboard with lots of peaks (keys/buttons) and valleys (space between the keys/buttons) you would want to use the woven mat, OR CHOPPED mat-chop mat seperated into individual strands that you can push down into the cracks (not to confuse w/ chop mat), and then soak w/ resin. Chop Mat/heavier mat is used when you DON'T need lots of detail, like on a flatter surface or one w/ less variation to it like the trunk floor/sides/floorboards/etc. When I do a spare tire well I usually tape & foil off the well and floor, pour in some resin BY ITSELF first to get the most EXACT copy of the small ridges of the area, then I move up to woven mat, then once it's pretty flattened out I'l layer it up w/ the heavier chop mat. GP can/should fill in anything I missed. ?

I've used plexi in a few setups (check the members section) and I will generally allow 1/2" as a minimum and ONLY as a med-small window, otherwise it's always 3/4" or more. Everytime I mount subs DIRECTLY to the plexi it's 3/4" or more. Also keep in mind plexi is HEAVY, more so than mdf or HDF. I had that lil box for the 3 L7 8's in the shop for vinyl and they kept freakin out how heavy it is for such a small box. Bracing is always good too as mentioned but just make sure you won't see any of the screws/glue or whatever you attatch it with since the glass will show every little detail behind it even at an angle. Definately use some good glue to bond it well. (Gorilla Glue or Elmers Ultimate seems to work for me)

Welcome aboard. Not too shabby for a first build bro. I remember how it was startin out at 14 or 15 and that looks like a good starting setup. I don't know if I can condone the amps screwed to the box approach, but amp racks and fiberglass will come with time and experimentation. Just gotta dive right in. Nice lookin Caddy too, but X2 on some new shoes/socks.

Congrats man. Sounds like a great opportunity. Just keep ur mind "open" in there and try to learn a lot w/ out being/becoming the next "Sayar" (see Roe or other forum under "arrogant dipshit"). Hope it goes well for ya. better start hittin them elect/physics books too.

As far as the box sliding goes you have almost an infinite number of options, heres some: 1: make a copy of ur trunk carpet in 1/2" or 3/4" mdf (the entire perimeter of the trunk floor), then cut down the corners until you can get that thru the trunk opening into place a s a new floor. You can screw/bolt the box to that fom inside the box, from underneath, or make some vertical supports that "hug" the sides of the box and screw thru them into the box. Also you can cut out the section over the spare tire if you want to still have it accessable. You can use Bolts/screws/and or L brackets avail at most hardware stores. 2: like mentioned^^ make the floor out of mdf in the shape of the "negative space" (area other-than where the box sits) and just wedge it in there to keep it from sliding. 3: Bolt the box down to the trunk (just be careful and keep track of where your gas tank and all moving parts and electrical is UNDERNEATH where you're gonna drill/screw through) As for the Rearview Issue I've been having the same prob. The clicking sound is annoying as hell. I have determined that in my car (1997 Integra) the rearview actually bolts to the roof via a spot welded bracket, which SHOULD be great, but it's the bracket that is rattling/clacking against the roof sheet metal and NO amount of foam/carpet/or other sound deadening material will work. Aside from filling it in with something solid I am still working on this problem and I'll let ya know if I have time to fig it out better. It's "less" after I put some foam and a piece of carpet between the mounting piece and the bracket, and re-tighten it often.

This is STILL the only setup I've EVER come across and said to myself/my buddies: "THAT is exactly how I would do THAT vehicle, if I could. PERIOD." I'mma a pretty picky bastard, but I truthfully can't find anything negative to say about this EXT. It was designed/planned out/Built FLAWLESSLY. Great job once again Steve-I would LOVE to see/hear it in person. I missed it at the Cal Expo Auto show where it took best interior I think and I heard you took it up to Sunrise for the Lowes meeting. Wish I coulda been there.

DEFINATELY! I'm always in the show runners/judges ear all day about stuff like that. Mosquito like, but if I can "lobby" w/ any effect It's worth the guy thinkin I'm just some douche. No sweat off my sack. IMO-it's such a more "COMPLETE" show/comp when it draws the SQ/SPL/SQL guys alltogether and we can all feed off each other. I know You know what I'm talkin bout Steve-Them Extreme Autofest shows down at Infineon were SOO nice with such a variety of systems and diff setups to check out. Not to mention IMO the SQ guys are a little more "chill" than the extreme DB guys and it's a nice balance of folks to kill the day with. Those shows are where I met Steve when he was rollin the Civic and rackin up lottsa those 80+ trophies. I hold my 3rd place cup's from those BIG field events in higher esteem than the 1st and 2nds in little comps where hardly anybody showed and it was all a BURP fest. I like the OLD Battle of the bass format w/ all the different categories like Install/SQ/Bang for the buck etc. To me that was the most complete way to judge a setup. Leave the Burp cars/trucks to the db drags. Just my 2cents.

Yea I hear ya on that...as far as the thrill of the competition that is, but... I was just tellin somebody that asked me why I havn't been hittin the shows lately-I value the 2nd and 3rd place trophies most since the only time I get a 1st place one is when no "big hitters" show up. In my mind It like this: How far do you wanna go? Big fish in a small pond, medium fish in a big pond, etc etc. When It's just me and one other guy in my class and I take first, I don't feel the same sense of accomplishment I do when I take 3rd out of 20 competitors in my class. I'd rather be a medium or big fish in a BIG pond. So I don't feel like competing so much until I have a more worthy setup. In my eyes, it's still a great setup as is, "loud enough" for my ears, but if I want a trophy getter I gotta keep up w/ those "heavy hitters" and keep rebuildin.

I TOTALLY agree. The F-up was only compounded by the fact that it seemed like EVERY officer on site thought he/she was the first responder unit and was responsible for the shot. There should have been HIGHLY trianed swat snipers called in or at least a minimum of 2-3 close support officers cleared to fire if needed. Also-Those 80+rounds go off in how much time? maybe a second or two-thus it had to be a LOT of different cops firing in a huge cross fire, which didn't give the bad guy or Dog much chance. Poorly orchestrated encounter for sure. It'll make a good "what not to do" in deadly force training classes.

I dint think askin for pix from the show I missed would be considered whining. Sidenote-I've never Bass raced, I guess, if it's just about knowing how loud you can go for however long, I could kill in that regard cuz I can peg it any where under 144TL and do it all day. I guess thats the 139.9 category? LikeI said, never tried the bass race but I meant it'd be a waste and I wouldnt pay to enter the dbDrag (the only one Im familiar with) and then Place and get a lil certificate instead of a trophy. Like I said-I think I get discouraged based on knowing all the heavy hitters are out there. I've been in "Good standing" for half the day and right at the last minute somebody like Steve shows up and I get bumped. If it's a free for all Like it was in Battle of the Bass, and they take awy the SQ AND INSTALL categories, I don't think it's worth it to go until I have a 150db car. I've only been to one comp where i did not place and that was the last one I went to. I wouldn't bring a slow car to a race either. I wanna take some hardware home so Imma prolly just wait till I have time to rebuild w/ all the stuff I've been stockpiling.

Everything is different when YOUR life is at stake. If someone says they have a gun, whether you can see it or not you have to assume they do. The lights did not light up BEHIND the wood post, which is where his "gun hand"/flip flop was. If you are unsure if they do or don't, if they pull it out/wave it at you/"throw it" in a rapid gesture, I'm willing to bet you'd make the same split second reaction of self preservation. Was it terrible? YES. Should it have gone down that way? NO. But if the cops "knew" he was bluffing, and just "wanted it over with" they would have rushed him/tackled him/cuffed him, etc. It's the uncertainty that screws up "the perfect shoot"/best case scenario. If it's YOU or THEM, in ANY standoff, MOST, if not ALL folks, myself included would rather face manslaughter charges than a barrage of bullets from the bad guy. If you've ever played paintball, AIRSOFT, or any other kind of Real/simulated shoot out game when PAIN is the result, chances are you have either been a victim of or the perpetrator of FRIENDLY fire. It happens all the time cuz when folks get scared and are faceing quick decisions, they make mistakes. Case in point.

I guess if it's a major event I can understand some secrets about ur "innovative ideas" but I was under the impression this was a 1x point event and only the Bass Racers were after Trophies. Maybe i'm trippin. When I did compete, (Mind you I wasn't anywhere near the running for "National Champion" but then again are those guys really coming to THESE events?) I would show/demo my setup to anyone who wanted to see it before or after the Competition. The secrecy thing seems a lil extreme to me unless you're going to some super-cup, invitational dealio. ~2cents.

Yes, old news, and bad vibes for sure...BUT: 1: Don't tell the cops that have guns pointed at you: "I'MMA SHOOT YOUR DOG IF YOU LET HIM LOOSE", or even that you HAVE a gun, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON'T. You're kinda asking for it. 2: DON'T, after saying THAT^^^, whip out a black flip flop, IN THE DARK, when the dog runs at you. 3:He either wanted to die just to escape life (i.e. suicidal), or was so determined to "make his point" that he'd give his life for it and did. 4: He acted stupidly, and paid the price. My heart really only goes out to the dog. 5: Cops need MUCH more training and hardware options regarding use of force ("maybe" a less lethal method like rubber bullets, CS gas, or tazer could have been used with better effect), AS WELL as some GAWDAMN TARGET PRACTICE. Bein a cop can't be easy. Friendly fire is all bad. Reason # 1,012 that Compton CA is bad place.
