You have to set your gains correct, with a DIMM, O-scope, or a DD 1. Clipping can come from your headunit, not from wiring down to 1 OHm. Nope, class AB is the old standart and sound better than class D. Class D is much more efficient than class AB, but have the touch to a thin hollow analytic sound. Class AB is still standart for mid´s and high´s.

I guess its a class AB amp, the half of the power you put in goes up in heat.
