  1. when I mounted my amps to my van, I used bolts with tightining washers behind and it has two bolts, that way when they start to turn, if they have the right size bolt, most burglars don't carry a full on bolt set, then it will stop once you turn it so far I will be out there withing 1 bolt being started, that's my deterrent
  2. I work in the install bay, just to let you know you need all your own tools in the shop
  3. you could wait out there with a shotgun and some stun bags, after you hit them, and there down call the cops, and they take them away, just be careful, those bags, if shot at the wrong spot also kill , or get a shotgun shell that is pretty much made of shards of sharp metal, they will rip skin and muscle right off, happen to be illegal, but they wont touch your car ever again
  4. and this is why you should fuse an amp, even if it doesn't have built in fuses, fuse it externally thank god yours was fused, or you would be buying a new amp instead of a 3 dollar fuse
  5. you need to sit and wait outside with a paint ball gun and release furry on them when they come up to your car, that is scary man, I would be pissed if someone where doing that to mine. Get a viper 5901 or 5902 in there, and a lot of sirens on the inside and out, then you need to make it so the hood has some kind of extra thing to hold it down, so when it is popped, there is a secret thing to put to get it to open all the way, then they cant disable the battery
  6. at our work we use a module called the FLCAN, it is www.flash-it.com, that is the site where you do everything, they work really nice, I looked up your vehicle, it will take care of door locks, factory arm and disarm, tach output, and trunk release. You do have to get it flashed somewhere, which takes 5 seconds.
  7. I was wondering if I could get a reply from nathan. I have a D3100 in the back and a d3400 in the front. I have read that having different size batteries can shorten the life of them, because when you turn off the car they can try and take current from each other to equalize. I was was just wondering if it would be recommended to isolate them, I have read the post above and from what I can see I do not, but I just want to make sure that this is 100% as i don't want 500 dollar in batteries to go down the drain, lol, within a couple years. I have a 130 stock alternator now, I was looking at a mechman 340 amp one possibly in the future, but I don't think I want this van forever, and it would be hard to sell that alternator afterwards, ha ha
  8. I am thinking about it, I really would like to see a pic of it and maybe a bit more on specs, like does it it a wall at a certain temp or that, btw, ha ha, my engine gets an extra 40 amps for the same price , also, mechman, lets say I got that alt for my van, and I changed vehicles, would it be possible to mount it in a new vehicle that its not designed for, I am guessing I would just have to make a custom bracket, well someone else would have to for me
  9. my big ones are holding up, but the small ones suck, ha ha, he nathan where can we get the new stickers from you guys?
  10. i'd rather download or make the files for free and have a cheaper price over having it come with a cd. *click...click click* there, you're done. saved me some dollars but then you have another issue, if you output it through a mp3 player, you could have clipping going on in the internal amp of that, or you could burn it incorrectly so that it is not a true 0db track anymore, if he included a disk, which costs a whole 5 cents (No joke) then it would be spot on for everyone
  11. yea, if someone wanted to steal them it would take them 2 seconds, I used to have screws for mine going into the panels, now I bolted them in, and have locking washers on the opposite side, would take them forever to steal unless they brought a whole ratchet set to take them, ha ha
  12. it should be based on both, because if you put that fuse and you did the wiring in 8 gauge then you might as well forget it, the fuse needs to be less then the or = the wirings limits, and above the amps limits, your really fusing it because if it shorts, the fuse will stop the battery from shorting out and exploding
  13. All i am saying it that in SOME cases there is a wrong way. Like the ford focus example i gave. yea, it all depends on the vehicle. If you leave the factory wiring you have more wire, which is less resistence, but may not look as cool. If you know where the wire begins and starts on each side, you can replace, but if you don't then I would leave it
  14. just upgrade the wires, leave the stock stuff, even though I don't have stock grounds connected but I lost my cruise control around the same time, weird XD
  15. I have a 99 caravan 3.3 liter though, so my stock is a 130 amp luckly
  16. have you metered the lock wires to see what they do, do they rest at ground, or 12v? and what do they do on the lock/unlock and afterwards the12volt locks I think this is how you have to setup your locks, but make sure you test with a multimeter before you do this
  17. yea, The soldiered terminals feel like I could pull a car with them
  18. The 5901 is awesome, I have the 5902 which is the 5901 brain with a different keyfob. Its nice having awesome range. I too have the proximity sensor, its nice to know when people walk by my van, it it covers the inside well. If its not set right it will drive you nuts, but thats why you set it right. I also wait for a door trigger or glass break, those are about 100% when it comes to a break in, it doesn't lie, if that sensor is tripped you better run out there full silent is nice too as people don't care if a siren is going off, but the thief will not expect for someone to be coming out to the car plus you can bypass the proximity sensor if your at a store or something, but its worth leaving on, makes people think your car is smart ! is the key fob worth an extra $110 I install these things for my job, tomorrow I am doing a 5901. I have the 5902 in my vehicle, and I love it. I would in my opinion get the 5902 over the 5901. The 5701 has only a 2000 foot range, the 5901 and 5902 have a 1 mile max range. Defiantly get at least the 5901. As far as hooking into the preexisting remote start wires, you can, if they are easy to get to I would just redo it all, not that hard. Remember with alarm systems, you want the brain so that it isnt easy to get to. I figure if it takes a thief over 1 minute to find it you are good, as that is the time it takes to get out there but the longer it takes them the better. If you are ever going to disable these alarm systems, the easiest way is to get into the car without opening the door, and go to the main pillar where the antenna wire was ran up, drivers side, and cut the antenna wire, that disables you from knowing you got it, then removing the modules ground connection, thats the easiest way to disable these things, luckly you can't do that most of the time without opening the door anyways, the 5902 already saved me once, and I think of it this way, is all your equipment worth $300 or less? no? then you should be getting the 5902, you can get it for 335 shipped Viper 5902 Link. Also, playing with the 5901 remote and the 5902 remote (which I have) I noticed you still have to remember commands on the 5901, like if you want to check temp or something, you have to remember the function table. on the 5902 you just switch menus and its a full on menu system, so no memorizing one cool thing you can do with either of them is the timer start. I set mine for 8 hours 1 time. So I have my phone alarm me at 11:20 pm at night, then I set the timer mode. Then my car starts automatically 8 hours later at 7:20am, and I leave at 7:40am, and its all warmed up, that way if I wake up late when it is -20f out, I still have a warm car to get into that can be done with either, but its easier to activate on the 5902
  19. I will pray for her tonight, I don't know what I would do if I lost my mom too!
  20. I may pick up a set, all depends on how they sound, which I can't test before hand ><
