  1. X-max and x-mech are very different -- most big subs based on the 12-spoke hit them at the same time. Our new platform drivers have MUCH more x-mech than x-max to prevent mechanical damages -- the driver can keep moving beyond x-max (which is the 70% BL point) by quite a bit before causing any damage + with the reduced 2nd order harmonic and reduced mechanical noise distortion isn't kicking in as quickly either so much of it is quite usable.
  2. We are still developing the soft parts a bit at our factory; here is a video on the 2nd prototype with a small revision we made to the surround material : "Early sample test. We are tooling a new spider to go with it as well. There is some high frequency sound which is a little bit of clipping of the source unit." "Test at one frequency / maximum mechanical travel -- testing for ruggedness." At this point we are beating them silly just to test ruggedness -- so we are pushing them well into mechanical noise territory to do so. When I get my hands on them I'll do more videos at varying levels of excursion, etc.
  3. We will announce an ETA when available; there is not one yet.
  4. We'll be doing a good bit of testing to determine the rating; it will be mechanically limited.
  5. We will sell them with phillips; most of our customers prefer it. Allen head set screws are readily available at most fastener stores; one could replace them if desired.
  6. The SAX-100.4 v.2 has MUCH more flexible crossovers ; thats the route I'd go.
  7. There is a link under the 50.4 text in the OP -- there are photos in there of it To answer the quesion; yes it has an RCA out.
  8. SAZ-5000D and NS-1 v.2 Photos : * 5000D has integrated PCB fan.
  9. X-10/12/15 are due in Charlotte around July 9th -- then to us shortly after. X-18s are behind that about two weeks. Z v.4 will take until roughly end of July based on the coil hold up.
  10. Info on the other amps will be coming along as well ; but not today -- so I didn't forget; just stay tuned
  11. Some 150.2 and 100.4 v.2 photos : * SAZ-1200D above the SAX-150.2 * 150.2 crossovers * 150.2 internals. * SAZ-1200D above the SAX-100.4 v.2 * SAX-100.4 v.2 crossovers * SAX-100.4 v.2 internals
  12. Been doing alot of work on some new amp products -- I don't get the time I used to on the forums to keep everyone in the loop but I'll go ahead and announce them today! Production is starting this week so we are looking at ~90 days or so. I won't be starting pre-orders right away but do expect a pre-order at some point once I get more solid time-lines. SAX-150.2 ($400 MAP) : Two channel Full-Range Class-D design (similar to 125.4) -- also runs on 19v like SAX-125.4 SAX-100.4 v.2 ($400 MAP) : Four channel Class-A/B design with similar crossovers to the 125.4 -- but a lower price as it's an A/B amp. Now featuring a fan as with most of our new stuff. This model will run to 16.5 volts. SAZ-5000D ($1520 MAP) : All new case tool about 3" narrower than the 4500D/NS-1 casing; similar design to the 4500D but beefed up to carry a 5000 rating from us. NS-1 v.2 ($1900 MAP) : Same new case as 5000D; will be about 3" narrower / 3" longer than current model with pretty well identical internal components and same price. Many customers were looking to go narrower so we've been working on this for a bit. ---------- Some of the SAE amps will also be launching -- MAP will be close to what I discussed originally. I posted about the "E" line prototypes some time ago; I was very happy with them. Now a few are coming out this year. Case tool will look similar to the newer case SAZ line. These come with remotes / are stable to 16.0 volts (not 16v system stable). There are some changes compared to prototypes and I will get more information up before any pre-ordering goes up. ---------- SAE-600D ($209 MAP) : The board is like the "500D" I posted about a while back that well exceeded the power expectations. [/url]http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/89173-ns-1-sae-500d-prototype-pictures.html SAE-1000D ($269 MAP) : Little smaller version of the 1200D board posted about earlier. http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/107782-sae-800d-1200d-50-4-prototypes.html SAE-50.4 ($159 MAP) : More basic crossover function from our other gear -- Class-A/B design. Pretty much like the prototype but with our tooled case. http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/107782-sae-800d-1200d-50-4-prototypes.html ---------- I will start releasing more information as we get closer to pre-orders. Info that isn't here already and pictures will be coming along!
  13. Got the response graph in; could be very useful as a mid-bass as well
  14. Few more pics for you guys : * You can see the copper cap on the pole as well as the main diaphragm which is made from aluminum. This driver features a rubber surround as well which was chosen to help hit our FS target. * It's finished off with an aluminum dust cap as well. So the whole front of the driver helps shed some of the heat. This is in addition to the CNC slits all around the bottom of the basket as well.
  15. I'll be sure to do videos when it arrives here for sure; right now we are doing testing at our factory with various coils to determine which configuration we move forward with testing here. It looks like CCAW as of now. I'll see about getting a video done at the factory as well so we can see it playing sooner Here are specs with very little play time on the CCAW version : Re : 2.9 ohms Le : 0.44 mH Fs : 44 Hz Sd : 105.6 cm^2 BL : 11.282 TM Qms : 8.7 Qts : 0.43 Qes : 0.46 Vas : 2.816 L Cms : 117 uM/N Mms : 75g Sens : 79.1 dB 1w/1m Ported box of 0.3 - 0.35 cubes tuned to 35-40 Hz looks very good. ----- A few common questions : 1) Power handling is pending extended testing. The coil is about the same size as what we use in the SA-8 v.2 but is CCAW rather than copper. We will be mechanically limited on the rating. 2) The motor is 126mm and the cut-out is 140mm so there is wiggle room. The only question is how easy it will be to mount with the terminals and wire; will be doing some test-fitting when it arrives. We can still tweak it as we did CNC frames for testing before making the mold. 3) The top-end response is pending a response graph which we should have this week. 4) Linear x-max is expected to be around 15mm one-way and we have close to an inch one-way of x-mech for the soft parts and a few mm of padding in the motor so the coil cannot bottom out.
  16. We did go with a 2" coil on it as well -- which is a bit different from most 6.5" sub-woofers. Plus the aluminum diaphragm will also soak up some heat as well. Thermally it will be very robust; power handling will be more related to mechanics. The flat piston diaphragm opened up a good bit more usable x-mech up top for us -- but I won't be going overly stiff with it as I want a reasonable Qts and Fs from it. Also... I mis-typed the shorting cap is copper not aluminum.
  17. Little project I've been working on for a while... first prototype rolled out yesterday. It about 4 1/8" deep -- power handling and other specs will be announced once we finalize the coil (several variations will be tested). Every part was custom tooled; frame, diaphragm, dust cap, spider, surround, etc, etc. It also features an aluminum pole cap to lower distortion even further. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available =)

  21. Production on the X series is wrapping up; photos below! Production T/S spec will be coming in soon as well -- likely before the end of this week. Z v.4 production should complete fairly soon as well; we had some delay on the voice coils as the flat wire is imported from Denmark for those coils. Either way X and Z v.4 ETA should be within a few weeks of the original end of June time frame. ---------- Photos of the packaging inside of each directory; those images are pretty large (3MB each) so I didn't link them direct in the post. ---------- X-10 : Index of /misc/protos/X_Series_1250/Production Photos/X10
  22. Production units are still roughly on schedule per the pre-order.
  23. Few random parts pics : * New one-piece terminals; picture turned out fuzzy but these have our logo in them. * The top accepts a small bolt on each side to hold down a ring terminal for the lead wires. * One of about five boxes full of the new terminals! * Some new 12" Cones * Production 12" frame * New gaskets * Production 15" frame * 15" cone front - we have tons of these now, so awesome.
  24. The X and Z v.4 will be a bit of a hybrid production system. We will be getting stock X and Z v.4 woofers in from our factory but we will ALSO build customized units and some stock units if we run out of a certain configuration. Plus we have all the parts from drop-ins, custom builds, etc, etc.
  25. So a good portion of the new raw parts arrived today -- nearly a full 40' HQ truckload of soft parts and frames. Plus, of course, additional E, SA, and Z v.3 style parts! Still have more that will be arriving on our next two containers as well to complete all of the parts we need for X, Z v.4, and NS v.3 drop-ins / re-cones... will be partial containers of parts on those as many of the out-of-stock woofers will be coming in on those trucks as well (SA and SD-2 lines). I don't think very many people realize just how many raw parts we keep in stock here but this is a nice peek into that The fully built X and Z v.4 are still moving along according to the ETA in the pre-sale; roughly end of June for those.
