  1. Yea, it does, it has a max limit, so u can only slide the volume up to the point you set it to... But WHERE DO I SET IT?? lol. i want the maximum output of my ipod without clipping... someone O scope it!
  2. Thanks man but thats 4 years ago...I have a 3g Itouch, no guarantee they fixed the problem, but i have a feeling the technology is better/different now... So i'm hoping someones done the same thing with a newer ipod..
  3. Anyone ever O-scoped an Ipod? I use my aux input and i set my gains with my ipod at 100% volume, that way i never have to eyeball the volume slider so i don't worry about exceeding it and blowing my subs... but anyways...is it likely that an ipod or mp3 would clip at 100% volume? or is that a stupid question?
  4. Clipping your amp doesn't have to do with the volume of your test tone. Setting the gain with a lower DB test tone will result in a HIGHER gain setting and when you come across music that is louder than -3db you'll just be clipping it again. Try setting your amp to a few volts below what Torres' chart says for RMS ratings. Well, I NEED a higher gain setting, because my music sounds MUCH quieter compared to the 0db tone. I'm almost gonna say that either my ipod was clipping, if that's possible? because i put my ipod at 100% volume so i know its always at the same volume level, because my HU doesn't integrate ipods, its just an aux in, and the HU output is proportional to the Aux input volume... Or My head unit was clipping the 0Db tone even though it was at 3/4ish volume. Anyway the tone sounds much louder than my music, and i need one that sounds closer to the level of my music, or i need an ACCURATE way to compensate for the volume difference...the guys in the other thread said i should've used a -2 or -3 db tone.. Oh and if it matters, my subs can take the full 1700 watts RMS, so i think with the amp was maxed out the 0db tone did clip... So is there an accurate way to compensate or a better way to set the gains? OK, so you're telling me you blew your amp by having it set too low? And I use an AUX input on my Radio too, I set my volume on my Zune to 16 of 20 for max volume without clipping personally. Tone's are going to sound much louder, they are the absolute loudest input signal possible assumin they are a 0db tone, so don't expect music to be as loud. I know it sucks but that's how it goes. The -2 or -3db tone is used to set gains to compensate for music. Since you have a tone that is two-three decibels less than what is absolute max, you can compensate by turning the gain just a bit higher. This results in a louder setting for music but can also lead to clipping sooner if you come across a song that approaches the -2db threshold. (Such as BigPimpin's Music, DJ Billy E, or Bass Mekanik.) Let's start from the begging. Give me a rundown of your amp and subs. Just Brand and Model Number would be good. Idk where u got that it blew from setting it too low? I played a 0db tone for about 15 seconds with ipod up all the way, HU up 3/4, and gain set to max out the amp, and it blew the power supply. But anyway, subs and amp are in my sig, but it's two Pioneer TS-W3002D4, and a Soundstream DTR1.1700 **edit If my itouch had a number for the volume like, "16-20", i'd be fine with that, but ipods are just a slider, and i don't feel comfortable eye balling the volume setting, especially if i'm RIGHT on the edge of clipping my amp... So i keep it 100% volume, then i always know it's set in the right place. That's a good side question tho...Does an itouch clip at 100% volume? i don't have an oscope.. lol

  6. So we (me and the SMDers who commented on my amp thread) came the conclusion i clipped my amp to death by using a 0db 50hz tone when i was tuning the gains with a DMM, Sooo i guess i need -2.5 or -3db 50hz tones? anyone have a link or can send me one? <-- Also if u think i'm WRONG about which tone to use, please let me know..
  7. i think its about as stupid of an idea as black history month. dont hate me, im just being honest in how i feel. This x100 x3 If you made a month for car audio, you'd have to make a case for it over every other hobby...model trains, Radio Control stuff, bird watching.... like, come on now, just becasue WE think it's the coolest thing in the world doesn't mean everyone else does. And about the black history month...i think it's stupid ONLY because we don't have a month for jews/chinese/japanese.....every other group who has had some type of struggle in history...
  8. I've seen the seatbelt bolts, AND the bolts used to mount the rear bench down. Both are in every car and straight to the frame.
  9. Nikon D40 is a digital SLR with no shutter lag, GREAT image quality for the price, Easy to use Auto and Scene shooting modes, that let the camera do all the work, but when you get a little more experienced it is extremely full featured, and it is compatible with all nikon DX lenses, and Nikon Speedlights. The kit comes with EVERYTHING you need to start shooting except a memory card, but those are cheap now a days. The 18-55mm lens it comes with goes from wide enough to get panoramas up to a decent zoom. Brand new they aren't below 400, but it looks like some used ones are on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G-Zoom-Nikkor/dp/B000KJQ1DG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296878541&sr=8-1 The Nikon SLR family is fantastic, we've been using them for years. Even down at the entry level models, they are exceptionally good.
  10. Alright cool thanks man, I'm in a tough spot for needing a job soon, and this is my best bet... i don't want to screw it up
  11. Residents here were asked to "Turn down the heat, cook with electric appliances, and hang clothing to dry in order to conserve natural gas". Our local school system has been canceling class for 4 days because we don't have enough natural gas to heat the schools... My gf's neighborhood lost heat for 9 hours while they reallocated gas to her area... This weather is kind of sketchy...
  12. That isn't bullshit? Here on i25 west of us they patrol the area with radar-equipped helicopters and radio ahead to police on the ground to pull them over. They have the same signs posted. It's a pain in the ASS at night. I've been caught twice. My radar detector doesn't pick it up cause its from over head. If they added that sign they probably assigned that area to a pre existing route for a traffic enforcement helicopter. He won't be there 24/7 but he probably comes through 2-3 times a day.
  13. Definitely sounds like an RCA problem, like your subs are grounding out, could be the HU...hopefully not the amp...
  14. Anyone on here working at best buy? I know there are a couple. I need some interview tips. Thanks.
  15. I'd just assumed he checked the obvious first, a "don't know, just blew" type situation. Like mine, sounds extremely similar... and if a thorough once over of everything doesn't reveal an obvious problem, it could be a manufacturing flaw or something similar. The other thread will help u determine that.
  16. Depends on the amp, but if your amp is stable at 2 ohm, and your amp will not exceed the SA's RMS rating @ 2 ohm, then yes, 2 ohm is better, your sub will see probably triple the power than if its wired at 8 ohm. What amp are you using?
  17. Yea, you just have to look at the two outputs of the Amp as one less wire junction, They are bridged, (electrically connected) to each other inside the amp, look at it as two screws to the same output. Anything you add to it, for instance, two 2 ohm loads, will be divided in half, so a 1 ohm load..etc..
  18. Sorry if that makes it more confusing lol. Hopefully that helps. That would be an impedance of 1 ohm.
  19. What impedance are you trying to accomplish? How low is the amp stable at? that could go as low as 1/4 ohm. OR 1 ohm, 4 ohm, or 16 ohm
  20. I had THE EXACT same problem. Read through this thread: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/99417-amp-blew-and-i-dont-know-why-help-i-dont-want-this-to-happen-to-the-new-one/ Hopefully some of those solutions work for you... mine, not so much.. But there is a lot helpful stuff in there.
