  12. Ahh yes... looking at his past youtube videos i remember this kid... He has a chevy s10... He built his own custom JL Audio 12s with 65mm of excursion (which is a lil over 2.5inches)... Then another video he had posted saying these 2 10 inch jls where doing over 170db because each speaker had a 85db sensitivity rating, and he filmed the spec sheet to prove that 2 speakers at 85db equaled a 170db audio system..... Here is one of his videos..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZy267KzPLI PS: I wish my tahoe has a great center console that would keep the cd's from falling off when bumping.....
  13. LOL Funny you say that... I like people that try to compare their loudness to someone else by asking "what volume they are playing your stereo at". Then that person says 36. Then the other guy comes back and says oh mine is louder I play mine at 55"... As if the volume number on your head unit matters one bit.. lol
  14. I see. I think a aq 2200 would be fine for a single xl 15, dont know dc subs well at all, just basing it from others that use them. No matter how you look at it, it feels cool to have an 18 in the trunk, but you will get tired of just 1 18, then youll want 2 18s... then a wall.... Lol Its a never ending process!!
  15. you could easily fit a single 15. But a pair of 12s would be way more cone area, and a pair of 12s would take power way better then a single sub (in higher power setups).
  16. No. Not at all. I personally think you be better of with a high end pair of 12s! I built a few boxes for the cavs, and I dont recall exact measurements but Im pretty sure a box using your dimensions will not fit thru the trunk nor the back seat if they fold down or you remove them. I built a single 18 box for my caddy trunk a long time ago and had to be built inside the trunk, with the sub firing up and port back.. only way the 18 would fit, and caddy has a way bigger trunk then a cav.
  17. I think your max dimensions may be a little bit too big!! I dont think a 10 cubic foot box will fit thru your trunk opening, you may want to double check or build a cardboard box with your listed dimensions and test fit it. Your only other option going that big is building the box inside the trunk and it can be a pita!

  19. Esh chris!! LOL Im sure he dont know much better. We all where not pro like me when we first started. I kid I kid. LoL But anyways like i said its Chapo, its just mechanical noise, Im uploading a video right now for you. Mechanical noise is something every woofer will have when free aired but thats why we make enclosures for them
  20. Then you sir are completely dumb to believe the sub in the video posted by the op is bottoming out... Since that sub is being stress tested at the sundown shop after it was built on a Sundown SAZ-1500 before being shipping off to the customer who bought it.. Which they do to every woofer!!!!
  21. Im free airing a Sundown Nightshade v2 12 and hear no things slapping or metal clunking. The sound your 99.9% hearing is the mechanical noise generated from the cooiling in the motor. Your hearing the air move in and out thru the pole vent and any other vents on the motor.
  22. The reason why it dont hit low was already answered. 1- Its a prefab box, prefab boxes are usually built in the 40-50hz range, and your trying to play 30hz. What happens when you play well below tuning is the port is not tuned correctly to properly control the subwoofer cone, when it can not control the cone the woofer just plays all sloppy, as if you where playing the subwoofer with no box (free-air). 2- Amps have a subsonic filter for a reason, Id suggust using it, because playing below tuning is damaging to your woofer(s)and over time will end up damaging the voice coil from it hitting the bottom plate, tearing spiders, jumping the top plate gap (which could result in the coil sticking and tearing spiders, or bending the coil, pushing the coil thru the cone, etc). 3- your subwoofers are some what cheaper, this always dont mean they can not hit lows in the proper box but generlly a cheaper woofer does not have as great of a freq response as a nicer woofer. Im betting your woofer kinda sounds like one of my old subs I was abusing to hell and back before I sent it out for a recone, my goal was to break the woofer before getting it reconed. Watch this video at 1min and 8seconds... I was playing well below tuning freq and the woofer was jumping the gap, and hitting the bottom plate. (it had torn spiders from my abuse in my old cadillac wall). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1V3oMaXpMY
  23. That is called drive by wire instead of the factory using a throttle cable. I still dont think reground will help. If these grounds thru the aluminum is so damn bad, the factory wouldnt let these vehicles leave the plant.. Its no different then using Aluminum for BusBars in a install.... Aluminum is not the most conductive metal but it works just fine, and power is distrubited thru these high spl vehicles without issue... If it was so bad, dont think Mr Meade would of used aluminum is his hoe, nor with Chickens hoopty, and as you can tell from the gear used in that install that price was no concern!
