Building A sub box for Kicker Cvr 15
RAM_Designs replied to bassaholicsfl's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
That box is over 10ft^3 before sub and port displacements... -
Upload to photobucket, paste code here.

Sorry, I don't have anything with a width that small.
-
You could find one on eBay pretty easily, I would assume.
-
I might have something already done that will work for you. What dimensions are you working with?

Digital Designs even need a break in period?!!!

I've never done it, but I don't beat the piss out of my stuff either. -
Great price for a pair of HX2's.

That's why I don't like aeros. To get a good amount of port area you need to use 90* elbows and custom make them to be 20"+ long. A single 6" aero would be the absolute smallest I would go.

Here is another design that I am doing for Mitchell Collins over in Aussie land. This was obviously done in metric units since they use 18mm MDF over there, which takes me a little longer than usual...it's a good learning experience though. The box is .8ft^3 sealed with a 1.15ft^3 ported chamber tuned to 44hz, and is for a lower line Phoenix Gold sub. As you can see there is a spot for a removable plexi window to be installed, which will allow for monitoring of the sub's excursion and removal of the sub from the ported chamber. Youtube's audioswap feature is being a pain. I uploaded this two days ago and still no audio.

37.5" x 17.25" x 16.5" = 4.92ft^3 before sub and port displacement 15"x4.5"x22" = .86ft^3 for port displacement Left's say .15ft^3 for sub displacement So without any bracing you're looking at 3.9ft^3 after displacements. A 3.9ft^3 box with a 15"x3.75" port that's 22" long gives you a 37hz tuning. A 32hz tuning using the same net volume would require 31.75" of port length. It looks like he was finding the port length based on the gross volume of 4.92ft^3, which is not the right way to do it.

is 21 cubic feet right for these measurements

Dang that is a lot of space. In my dodge 4-door I have 61" wide x 21" tall x 23" deep to stay under the window line. -

What subs are you using? With a box this size you'll likely want to be doubling up the mdf in some places, if not everywhere. -
Nice, XBL^2 motor FTW.
-
Nice sub. If this is the newer model, it'll be an absolute beast in the 20-50hz range in the right box.
-
1.75-2ft^3 with a low 30's tuning will work well.
-
I have a 10" Assassin in 1.5ft^3 at 28hz and it has no issues playing up as high as you need it to, and it also has great low-end output, as you can imagine. Every sub behaves differently in a certain situation. Just because someone's setup can't play well above 50hz in a low tuned box doesn't mean that every low tuned box has that same issue.
-
Doesn't really matter what you pick, four 15's with that much power is going to be loud as balls.
-
hmm...
-
Doing two 12's will allow for plenty of room to fit everything properly. Follow the "Get a custom design quote" link in my sig to get directed to my website where you can input all info and get a quote before submitting the info to me.

With the 36" width you're working with, you're going to be hard pressed to get a big enough port in there with a pair of 15's. I can get 70in^2 of port using just a normal slot port.
-
I still think the port is too small...I'm just not a fan of small ports. Unless you can get 8ft^3 or more before sub and port displacements, I think you'll be sacrificing output in the end unless you're running a good deal more than rated power.

Are you using the same external dimensions that he provided? If you're using a bigger port than he is, then you're ending up with even less chamber volume after displacements, which is why that 35hz tuning is peaking higher than it should.
