Not true. you can't get a 1 ohm load from 2 dual 2ohm subs. Although if you really wanna play it safe, get the dual 2 ohm versions, then you can wire them to a 1.5 ohm load since they're FI's. You'll be fine either way really

It'll be .75ohm technically, but as long as you have them in a good box your overall impedance will be close enough to 1ohm so your amp will be fine.

Well. If you're any good at soldering I say give it a try! What's the worst that could happen, you fry an already fried amp? Just make sure to get the right kind of mosfets & take your time. BTW you're gonna want to replace ALL the mosfets at the same time (you might be okay without doin the output stage but will have to test it afterwards).
