  1. The sub when plotted on a graph compared to others in a similar price range ($500-700) prove to be very efficient with low power, the 1w 1m reading was like 7db higher than anything else in the price range, while having a much better frequency response than anything else. much more than any other I put it up against, but when you graph 1000w on all of them, the 1000w 1m reading was like 12db lower than everything else. and the frequency response fell off quick compared to the others at a very high volume. A very interesting test. Its like a car geared for quarter mile runs racing a car with an extremely high top speed, the quarter mile car will be quicker in the beginning but eventually the top speed will win it over. Definitely an amazing sub though. The low wattage performance was higher than anything else even in half the size of an enclosure. As getlocivic said, and amazing SQ sub.
  2. is that the one that weighs 90 lbs? you mentioned it does not hit the high notes, through trial and error i've found that the lower you tune the harder it is for a sub to hit those higher notes because the response falls off quickly. I did a box at 30hz and it didn't want anything to do with bass over 40hz, you can play around with it though, if you continue to increase the enclosure size it usually raises the response of the higher tones, all the while increasing your lows around the tune more and more. nice build looks like it sounds amazing.

  5. here comes pictures I tried to snap all I could see I was Really surprised to see this interesting box, with the interesting build i've been working on for the last month. 2 sundown 8"s in a T-line, if i'm not mistaken these are theyre entry level 8"s, it did a 135+db at a very low HZ
  6. Right on I remember seeing you, think I stood by you a few times in between the competing cars. Its been 3 years since I've been to an SPL event so I was all up in the action haha. its something i've always enjoyed, but have been working almost 7 days a week for 10 years so I missed everything that went on all the time. Now i'm off on the weekends so I will have the time to get back into it.
  7. Sweet what brings you here from cali? The sunburn is pretty intense been slathering on the aloe, never even thought about sunscreen
  8. Yea and maybe a 0.5 cubic foot sealed box, haha you saw that post. coincidently I was the guy in the purple snake skin shoes. black shirt and jeans, spiked hair, I was the one doing the running man next to the cars in the lanes, and just kidding. Great visual though I was there solo, my friend stopped by but left, I don't know anyone that is into this stuff like I am around here, shit even at the local shops you go in asking for a 5k rms amp or a thousand dollar sub they look at you like your nuts, I was told "people don't buy stuff like that around here," I did get a quote on a Hertz audio SPL from them, they wanted like 2 or 3 g's for it, way to much money to not be a DDZ series. it wasn't even a neo driver.

  10. I was in the purple fusion that said PURPLESYRUP on the back, haha, I don't know charley, but came to the show to donate and show support. As soon as my next build is done I will be attending more events. I'm about 2-3 weeks out. Waiting for DD to get parts in and send it to me. there was a 6 week wait when I purchased.
  11. http://midwestspl.hoop.la/calendar heres the calender, usually every friday and saturday theres one somewhere. My bass tasting build will be done in a couple weeks, thats when i will get more serious. I still am only using 4gauge wire, stock cd player, and the class I was in ended up being music only, so unprepared, I competed using youtube videos from my phone, haha, 138.9 on a dubstep track legal, 149.6 Lil jon BME click not legal , sound quality tuned box @34hz. I wish I knew someone close with a TL so I could experiment and see what my car likes the most.
  12. Seems to be about once a month or so. This one popped up 2 weeks ago. It was a special event to raise money for a dedicated competitor that got in a bad wreck leaving an event about 3 weeks ago. there was 58 entries at this event. Oh and thats for springfield, there are events pretty much every weekend from Midwest SPL, usually within a 2 hour drive time radius. Where are you moving to?

  15. For a 12" i build .5 cu ft larger than the sub company suggests, ported box, be sure your vent mach is around .04-.05, don't cheat the box, build it as strong as possible, with proper bracing that will not disrupt moving soundwaves. If you want to burp tones find the hz your car best responds to. If you want music and really loud, a 34- 36hz tune seems to do the job. just a random 3am suggestion.
  16. yes it is before doing any work I made sure the barrel completely dried out with a heat lamp so that anything that was going to separate would separate at the maximum distance, which ended up being very little separation, there were only a few boards that showed maybe a 1 millimeter gap, nothing ever became loose or flimsy, so I picked a good 1.
  17. thanks, yes they are very strong. Its solid oak, reinforced with metal, I'm certain that it should work out very well. the goal was something as strong as concrete but not so heavy. Lol

  19. For bracing, there will be a 10" wide 3/4" board that the pvc is connected to almost dead center from the middle of the baffle to the center of the bottom. The largest area without an internal brace is 14", which has a steel ring on the outside and 3 phatty layers of glass on the inside.
  20. I know thats why I went a head and cleared it up.
  21. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/142694-bass-tasting/page__fromsearch__1 everythings here
  22. I unlocked the youtube videos, and the build log is going up in the members rides section now titled "bass tasting" And yes its going in the trunk, it sits in the spare tire well and will be angled back.
  23. All the boards are gorilla glued then fiberglassed together. the steel rings will stop any outward flex completely. they are strong as hell to begin with, gotta remember this is made out of 3/4 solid oak, not mdf or layers, the baffle is 1.5" thick solid oak with some layers of glass. I mentioned MDF in my first post just to get an idea of what it would take, then when I applied that to solid oak it would for sure be as strong as possible.. the bottom will be screwed into each board then properly fiberglassed in to make the barrel and bottom one. I've got nearly 5 nights worth of trial and error paperwork on the build, not something you can just slap together. took me 2 nights to figure out how to port was going to work due to space issues. after all displacement I will be at 2.9 cu ft. with 39.25 square inches of port in an enclosure that is as solid as concrete, proper vent mach for the best "loading" posible due to the angle and alignment the box will be positioned. I'm a wine rep, i need something practical for my job so here it is. the trunk will be furnished with earthquake proof wine racks and a tile floor. I have to have wine with me everywhere I go. theres much more to it than what i've explained, but its going to be interesting, so stay tuned. completion all depends on how long it takes for DD to get the sub here.
