Is there any decent PA 6.5's that will get loud off my Punch 40x2? Wanting some extra oomph in my mid range respone.

Lol on the coil smell, never had that happen. Yet
Those 1.5" tweets would work just fine on head unit power, I've done that before and it helped the higher notes. Check audiosavings for their small tweets, Quantum Audio. I've had 2 pair of them and they still play great after 2 years. -
It's forsure not the sub lol. The gain is a 1/4th up, sub level is all the way up on H/U. I get above half gain on the sub amp before I smell coil. 1/4th way up is just when I start dipping below 13.0v. But I never now, because it's not dd-1 tuned.

Lol as long as you know your limits with the sub/amp settings and you're not ignorant about jacking up the volume, you're good bro lol
