  1. Does anyone know the size of the posts on the SMD octo distribution block (or any of the blocks)? I don't see any specifications to know what size of wire terminals are needed! Thanks!
  2. I am working on a new design for a build and I am in need of some math assistance. I have attached a picture of my design with measurements, I need to find out how much space is inside the box, it will be built with 3/4" MDF. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  3. I am doing away with my 4x12 setup and going to a 2x18 setup with Fi sp4's. I plan on running one Crescendo BC 5500 on each subwoofer wired down to a single ohm on each amp.(not strapped.) I wanted to build a custom dual chambered ported box for this setup and so far I have a few ideas of my own but am very unsure if it will give me the most spl and output!!! I can go 48Wx32Hx28L maybe even 33H 39.5x31 face 48x28 top 48x28 bottom 27x31x27x31 port L 26x31x26x31 right 48x31 back 22.5x31x22.5x31 tuned to around 30hz and 32ish after sub displacement.. 8Cubes per sub. too big or? I open for Ideas, I have plenty of power for the amplifiers MM Elite 370 and three HC1800, 60 feet of 1/0 RF OFC
  4. Ive got a box designed for my 2002 chevy 1500 ext cab. The box is 9.0ft^3 and im putting 2 sundown x15's in it on 2 sundown 1500D's @1ohm. I have the box designed with 3 4" wide tube ports, and for tuning at 30hz, it was somewhere around 10 inches for each tube. Will this be enough port space for these subs? Im not exactly sure the requirements on the port size or area. I originally had a box designed for 2 DC level 4 15's, but decided I was going to go with sundown instead. The box size was 7.5ft, but now 9ft. Any suggestions on port size, will 3 4" ports be enough? Thanks for any help guys
  5. I need some help, I have 2 pioneer 12" stw-305c and I need to make a box for them. I'm going for a ported box with a slot port tuned to 34hz and I just can't get the port and box size right. I'm new to building boxes and if anyone could give me some dimensions that would be great.
  6. Hi there, I have 2 Kicker CVR 12's, on ported boxes, but I feel it is too SPL, and I think that a Sealed Box, can give more quality sound, but now I have the doubt of what size should I must used, for get good notes at 35 Hz, because I use an Epicenter, so all my frequencies are around 35Hz. The min volumen recommended is 1 ft3, and maximum 4.6 ft3. anyway I think the biggest recommended one don't fit in my trunk, but I want to know the differences between choosing a small medium o larg sealed box. I was thinking to use 2ft3, for each subwoofer, I think that size can fit perfectly in my trunk.
  7. Need to build a box for 1 XFL1522 for daily listening. American Bass only gives specs for SPL boxes and they don't reply to any of my emails. It will be powered by a Crescendo Audio S1500.1. I also plan on putting in a .5" lexan window (roughly 12"x18"). I'll paint the inside with a Shellac based primer and oil based paint. My last box I built was pretty basic and consisted of 4 90 degree corners and a port bracing with sub and port facing the same way, wires ran out of port and no carpet. I've thought about maybe trying to brace the box more, any thoughts? Here's what I've been thinking so far. 4.0 cu. ft. after displacements 26-32hz port tuning ~55 sq. in. port area (slot port) 4 90 degree corners and 1 port brace Sub Up Port Back WINISD (26 vs 28 vs 30 vs 32hz @4.0 cu. ft.) Green is 26hz Red is 28hz Blue is 30hz Yellow is 32hz WINISD (4.0 cu. ft. vs 4.5 cu. ft. @28hz) Green is 4.0 cu. ft. Red is 4.5 cu. ft. Side Note: What should I use to seal my box considering ill be painting over it? I used all silicone last time but I've been thinking that I could just use a caulk instead and be fine. Also for the Lexan window would something like this be a good gasket? Ill also use silicone and some threaded inserts. Thanks for any help guys!

    port size and shape help

Ok so im set now on getting a dayton ultimax 15 for my sub stage in a 4cubic foot box tuned at 25hz... i want dual ports so that the box is symmetrical, so areos are the best option. Im trying to figure out how much port area i need for this sub. Problem is the tuning is so low that the port has to be long. Going a large port area makes it a really long port and making it smaller may give me port noise or not enough port area. Any help on this would be nice The sub im getting The box will be made out of solid red oak wood made for counter tops. 1.5" thick all around. I plan to use 1" round over on top and side edges and then do a nice dark cherry stain on it.
  9. Heard that these subs like big ports but still not quite sure exactly how big to make it. The box is 4.5 cubes and I'd like to tune it right around 32hz. Haven't cut any wood yet so I still have time to size it up or down if necessary. Would a 5.5" x 12" port work well for a single 15? bigger? smaller?
  10. Hi, i am in need of help with a ported box design for 1 American Bass 15" XFL. It will be powered with an AQ/ Soundqubed 1200-1d. I have an 02 Monte Carlo, and my trunk specs are as follows: 30"L x 33" W x 17" H, my trunk opening is 16" L x 37" W. This sub is gunna be for daily, but i want to squeeze out all the spl i can while staying safe and sound. I listen to only rap so i want it to hit lows very very hard, while maintaining a bit of mid bass if possible. The external height of the box cannot be more than 16" because id like to be able to put it right through the opening in my trunk and don't wanna build it inside. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  11. So me and my dad are thinking of doing a project, were looking at a single 10" woofer in a home made enclosure but we don't know how big to make the ports or the box... I rember seeing a size guide somewhere but I can't find it... Thanks!
  12. I have heard that a round perfect circle speaker will sound better compared to an oval or a square sized speaker because it can produce sound waves more accurately. I was also told that a 6.5 inch is the perfect mid range speaker, because it is round, isn't too large, but isn't too small. Does the shape of the speaker really matter when it comes to the sound of the speaker? Would a 5 inch speaker sound better compared to a 6.5 or would a 4x10 blow them all out of the water. What do you think when it comes to speaker size and shape? What's your "perfect speaker"?
  13. looking for some advise on this box design. This is for 2 12" MTX 9500 subs. forward firing, sealed trunk. Any input would be awesome
  14. I am planning on putting about 5,000 watts of power into a car and of course, it has the stock alt, so it probably won't hold up. I understand that alternators come in different sizes, let alone different amperage's, but I need to know how to go about selecting an alt that will fit my engine/car.
  15. doing an upgrade in the wifes expedition. the factory 8 inch sub went last week. so i did some research and ordered a kicker comp 8 with single 4 ohm coil. it is 100w rms, and the factory amp does 85w rms. so i figured it was a good match. well, after moding to factory sealed box to fit a deeper sub in it, it sucks! lol cant hardly hear it unless you are in the 3rd row seats. so, i read thru the book and it lists a ported box from .66 to 1.2 cubes. says .66 is for a compact build and the 1.2 cu ft is for a sq/spl build. so i built a 1 cube gross box (before sub and port goes in) and the book shows to do a 1.5x8x18 port in the .66 box and a 1.5x8x12.25 port in the 1.2 cu box. so, what do i use for a 1 cu ft box? i tried the torresbox tuning program and i cant figure out what im doing with it. lol can anyone tell me anything as far as what i need to put in the box for a port, for a daily driver. she listens to everything, rap to country. i have the pieces cut for the exterior panels, just trying to figure out what to do with the port. and is this even big enough after sub and port goes in? book doesnt say if it is gross or net cu ft on their sizes. any help would be great. i know it is not a mega build or anything, but we want it to sound good. hell the cheap home theater sub sounds better then the comp in the factory sealed box! lol and it an old magnavox with a 6 or 6.5 inch woofer in it.

    obsidian audio 18

just got an obsidian audio 18, i need help with planning my box out. ive got an idea on about what size but anyone with one is welcome to help. or knows a lot more than i do. also what amp. ive basically decided im going with a soundstream TX 2000.1D amp. vehicle is a 93 chevy full size blazer( 2 door tahoe ). will be upgrading from 4 gauge to 0 gauge soon as well.
  17. Hi, so here's the deal. I'm on my break in between semesters at college. I, today, just got my second Rockford Fosgate 15" sub. One T0d415 & one T1d215. Wiring to 3 ohms on my Rockford T1500-1bdCP for over 1200 watts (in the future wire it to 1.33 ohms). I am going to make a box for both of them sealed off facing in the cabin. I'm having a problem, which is deciding how big I should make the box and port & also what frequency to tune it to. Rockford's recommended "high output" box is 3.25 ft3 net tuned to 38 htz (I am currently running this with one 15" facing rear). It hits pretty well for what I like, and I listen to mainly dubstep and rap with some old rock and hard rock. My car is a '98 Chrysler Concorde with over a gross volume of 13 ft3 to play with without going around much inside the trunk. I would like to keep some room in there, however, and would LOVE to be able to get my spare tire out if needed.. My dimensions for my box I am thinking of making is 36x18x24 with a gross volume of 7.41 ft3. Tuning to somewhere between 32 and 38 htz, not sure yet, any advice is great. I think I'm going to maximize my port area and make a middle slot port with the dimensions of 3.5x16.5x...? (I have to cut some medal in my car to see if I can widen my box some more for more port area). If you have any input/advice or anything, I'd love to hear about it. I'm going to aim to make my box 38 inches wide but I'll have to see how much I can cut away (soon!). Mainly need advice on the net volume of the box and the port area and tuning.
