Trâgîk
I have a question though, now if you run a amp at a low impedance, for instance .5 ohms, does ot matter if you go lower on the gains? Like would it be safer that way or is half ohms, half ohms if you know what im sayin? I know gains are for level matching but wasnt sure how it would effect low impedances. I hope you kinda understand what im saying You really need to turn the gain down. Since the amp is not going to actually double it's output at 0.5 ohms, then you cannot expect to have the same voltage and double the current - that would be double power. Gain is nothing more than a way to set the ratio of the voltage in to the voltage out, so the gain will need to be lower to prevent damage to the amp (unless it will come close to actually doubling output from 1 ohm to 0.5 ohms). Yeah i am very careful setting gains and very thorough. But a oscope would be a smart and good investment you guys are right. I have a processor that has a clipping LED and so do the dc amps too so i have two refrences to go by also. But i think i will run it for a while at 4 ohms strapped until my subs are broken in at least and then i might run it .5 ohms. I spent the money on two amps so i want to put them to good use. I might even end up selling the subs at sole point for D2 subs or some DC 1.5 ohm subs(if im not mistaken) -----SELLING EVERYTHING---- 2 DC sound labs 3.5k's (still avail) 2 HDC312A D1's (still avail) 5 XS Power Batteries (1 d3400 and 1 d1200 left) 4 runs of knukoncepz 0 gauge (have all the wire still) DC power 270XP alt (sold) RF T1 6.5 components (both sold) Powerbass XAX 4160 (still avail) Custom built box 4.75^3 tuned 34hz (still avail)

AMI CUSTOMS
Just to give you an idea, when my aq3500d.1s are strapped at 2 ohms, each amp seeing 1 ohm, I pull 440 amps and that is with my remote gain knob at half way, soft clip, no voltage drop at 14.8 Volt. When I strap them down to .5 ohm, rising to 1.4 ohm, each amp seeing .25 ohm, I pull 890 amps, remote gain knob is all the way down, soft clip, I drop to 11.9 volts for the first 3 seconds and then the voltage starts to recover, three batts and 4 alts underhood is my electrical. So for your first attempt at running lower ohm, since you don't know what to expect, dial everything back, bass boost should off anyway, and start to work your way up and keep an eye on your voltage. Just be smart about it, if you are unsure, take slow, cuz it only takes a second to smoke an amp. Thanks man Just in case anyone catches it, when wired at 2 ohms strapped, I rise to 6.5, that is what the pair see, and at .5 ohm strapped, I rise to 1.4, didn't want to confusing anyone, they are nominally wired at 2 or .5 but "see" a lil higher then that. bkolfo4
Many people forget that rail voltage is not the only limitation of an amp. The outputs also have a current limitation. So while setting gains using a scope based on voltage is great, once the load is connected you may surpass the amps current output limitation and get magic smoke. . . Running an amp at lower than advertised impedance takes more than just knowing how to set gains and having a great electrical system. You have to be experienced enough to judge what is going on while the system is playing. . . Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz. Ford302Redneck
If you have to ask, DONT DO IT!!! Everyone here is giving you bad advice, and shouldnt be telling a newbie to do this... I agree with this now. Also, I don't think those subs will take 4000rms each...
