langsdon2
well the new shipment came in friday and just for fun we decided to hook one of them up to an aq 2200d and burp it at 44 hz. It held perfectly no more probs. slamming right out of the box. I've never understood why people say it works perfectly out the box new. Well I would hope so. Usually if you have a faulty sub, it will let you know very quickly. I say that because the last 2 out of the box broke within hours. and the 3rd was display that broke within minutes Bang em if you got em
Southnash
Why has no-one mentioned the wrong enclosure??? If a spider separates, it's EITHER playing the subwoofer BELOW enclosure tuning frequency or bad glue... If you separated several, then it's your enclosure... You need to address this issue & ALSO you need to allow for the suspension to loosen up before driving it at full tilt!! 3-4 hours at 1/4-1/2 rated power will help... TeamHT
That would mean all drivers would experience the same issue unless it is in fact manufacturer error. And in my experience, these subs have never needed to broken in to play full tilt properly and effectively. Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you? Southnash
I owned the older SPLX & it did need to break in... I would still think the enclosure is at fault..Reaching beyond the mechanical limits of the speaker & taking parts with it... What power do you have? What is your enclosure tuning freq? Farmacist
I'm not going to nut hug here but the SPLX is a very goood woofer and should easily take the power. Either 2 things happened, user error... or it was in fact faulty, and I'm not ruling out the faulty one because it happens(in all companies) what I can tell you is that they can take over rated power, that I know.. a friend of mine ran 2 `12's of a xxx6500 on 16v, 1.1 ohm load after rise and he uses that daily. OldsBoomer
Hmm I see faulty manufactoring here, with a side of playing to low. But to everyone saying that clipping could not cause this. Im going to say wrong. Driving the sub with a clipped signal causing the coil to move past its intended points will cause additional stress on these soft parts no matter what frequency. Cheap plastic + High stress= broken plastic. Suburban Coming Soon
langsdon2
The problem was resolved, they had a couple other customers have the same problem. We got the new splxs with the new dustcaps. Put them both in running full tilt and have had no problems whatsoever, minus the suspension being loose. Bang em if you got em
