I have a prefabbed box a friend gave me , so I knew it was probably crap anyways. I mean it works decently and it looks clean but I like building my own.

Ok that would be great! Just keep in mind that I'll probably getting some big boys in the future... Fi car audio has really been getting my attention.

Either 2 FI BTL or DC Audio lvl 4s. Either way I want a box capable of pounding out lows. So as long as it'll be tuned to approx 30Hz I'm sure it'll work with either subs

Jesus christ, made my subs look like tweeters. I'm a 15 guy myself so I'll stick to that size. Yea I have a good hook up on batteries and power goodies so that's not even a concern. When I stall my truck, I'll make the trip and take care of that subject. I have a 2k watt amp for now but I'll just use that to tickle the subs until I wanna upgrade and utilize the benefits of properly powering them. Just out of curiousity... Why would it make a difference if a box tuned to 30Hz contained my xtrpros or Fi Q or BTL's? Isn't a box tuned at that frequency just that? Excuse my ignorance
kickass audio Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 i figured you would ask. the difference is that the btl's are made for bigger enclosures thatn your xtr's. The sub has mechanical limits and if you exceed those limits you will kill the sub. for example if you put a AA SMD in a box that is the size of your current box it will be choking the hell out of it because a smaller enclosure means that your subs will be able to take more power (not a big difference tho in some cases) and not lose control. so theoretically you can have a btl in a 3 cubic foot box and be overpowering them with like 1k of power and they will still work like a champ but remember, the amp MUST have clean power if its any bit clipped ur screwing yourself. So your xtr's will be geared to a smaller box than the fi sub will be using. its all about how much the woofer can displace air and all that stuff. its kinda hard to explain it so im sure someone else on here has a clearer way to explain it but pretty much your box for the xtr even if you were happy with the tuning you cannot use the fi's in it. you would be really straining the fi's because they love having bigger airspace to run. Another thing to consider is that when you have subs that are very under-powered having a bigger box will compensate for that because its more air space that will create that "boom" affect of the sub hitting the notes even with low power. for example if you had the ability to make a subwoofer box and fit a component speaker in it, that would sound a hell of a lot louder in a bigger box than a smaller one to some extent. Nope, my brain is intact... Your basically saying a box built for the BTL's dimension wise will sound better than my current box even with the XTRPROS but I will not hear the major improvement until I put the BTL in it, which will be tuned exactly for the dimensions. AKA DITCH THE SHIT BOX , got it. I was strongly considering the BTL N2 , I figure I'd never need more than that.
