crispy_chick3n
yea. i dont work for big oil, im just a lonely ol mechanic workin 8 am to 7 pm monday throu friday. ps one tip about the check engine light, by law the only time it has to come on is if anything emissions related is messed up. otherwise the manufacture can choose if the want it to come on at all. so best bet if you have a CEL on it is emissions related. now if the check engine light is flashing i can guarentee that on just about any make of car the catalytic converter is overheating. fun facts of the day Quote This page is crispy_chick3n approved. © crispy_chick3n inc
hershy314
Just for fun thought I'd price a few things cat. converter $285 O2 Sensor $45 x 2 If I gotta replace the cat, I'd much rather sell it and make payments on the Corrola. Don't get me wrong I still love Ford but the Corrola's 33-36 mpg on the highway is sounding damn good bout now. crispy_chick3n
then we can rule out the o2 sensors and the catalytic converter Quote This page is crispy_chick3n approved. © crispy_chick3n inc

dereileak
seafoam the sob I think I may replace my pcv valve, idk if its good or bad, but for 2 dollars, its worth a shot of getting even 1% better gas mileage, ha ha, now the question resides, where is it at, I will have to look at some schematics Edited March 6, 2011 by dereileak Quote 2006 Mazda3 Hatchback Black 5 Spd ManualPioneer 4300DVD2 Sundown SA-12 (34hz Tune, 3.22 cubes, 14.5 inches per cube, Triple Baffle)Kicker 10ZX2500.1 (2845 RMS) Sub AmpKicker 11ZX650.4 (705 RMS) Mid Amp -- (3 Amps)Kicker KQ3 Active CrossoverKicker KQ30 EqualizerKicker 09QS60.2 Components (Woven Carbon Cones)Kicker 09QS65.2 Components (Woven Carbon Cones) - (3 Sets)2/0 Gauge Electron Beam Technologies (3 Runs, 2 +, 1 -) 1/0 Gauge KNU Kollasal Flex (1 Run for -) 300 Ft Kicker X-Series 16 Gauge Speaker WireXS Power D3400 (Rear)XS Power D3100 (Front)Singer Externally Regulated Alternator (Being Built)+ The Love for Car Audio and BASS <3UBL Build Log <------- Click Here-------> Normal Build Log (For Comments)
JaM Customs aka mprete
no, the cat just lowers the emissions coming out the tail pipe, had nothing to do with gas mileage or performance. now if you have an egr system, the valve can be stuck, which could give you a little lower gas mileage but shouldnt be that big of a difference. plus... its a 1993, it has obdI which means the emissions standards are not the same and the check engine light may not come on with certain things we would see on obdII cars Quote 2001 dodge ram 2500 quad cab 5.9L V8 my build logs... dodge build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/94914-mpretes-2001-dodge-ram-2500-quad-cab-build-log/ trik build http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/94447-trik-build/page__p__1298547__hl__trik__fromsearch__1entry1298547 box building thread- very cool designs (PICS!!!) http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/95713-2d-or-3d-box-pics/page__gopid__1318152entry1318152 i am a mechanic, pm me if you have questions or anything. bigp_on_the_beat
quit complaining. im begging for my gas mileage to climb over 10 mpg. it aint gonna happen cause my rings are pretty burnt up, and that could be the problem with your car(not saying it is, not saying it isnt.) my mileage dropped like a som bitch when i started drivin the piss out of my jeep. mileage went from 18 mpg down to a whopping 6 mpg. you got it good. anyway off the thred jack. have you checked your pcv system? start the car and open your hood. the most common sign of a bad pcv valve is a rattlesnake like sound coming from the engine near the pcv valve. if you are unsure if the valve is bad or not, just buy a new one. they literaly cost no more than 5 bucks. have a compression test done to see what kind of condition your rings are in. hopefuly they are good. if the rings are having trouble sealing up then for a couple of oil changes run some slick 50 in it (ie: 20-w50) sounds weird, but the slick 50 will help to create a little bit of a lining on the walls, and help to seal the rings up again. also run some sea foam through your gas tank, this will help to clean and lube up your injectors. run the 91 octane in your car. cars are ment to run on the 91 octane rating, not the 87. the higher octane helps to reduce knock, and can help advance the spark timing which means less fuel is consumed by each cylinder per stroke. change out your plugs and wires. newer plugs fire hotter, faster and better, resulting in advanced timing and less fuel burned per stroke. make sure you gap the plugs correctly according to the sticker under the hood. try cleaning your throttle body. if it is built up with crud you will be lacking power and gas mileage. look for a throttle body cleaning kit. they are fairly cheap after doing all this you should see some sort of increase in mileage, but if you arnt willing to do any of this dont expect any more help. best of luck to ya. I'm going to try everything you said here Quote No car at the moment. roger1978
before you spend a shit tone of money start with something that has not been mentioned like the fuel filter, its common that no one ever changes them and with fuel being restricted you can lose fuel milage and your throttle respones and add the fuel injection cleaner. on the pcv thing your motor wont sound like a rattle snake lmao the pcv will sound that way if it is good and you remove it and shake it around if there is no noise then its bad.these are some easy and cheap things to start with and i would bet it fixes your problems Quote current spl 156.9 @ 40htz usaci mod 2001-4000 155.5 at 40htz http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/102676-rogers-chevy/page__p__1425005__fromsearch__1#entry1425005
