Why does "Like Us" Slam?

Recommended Posts

So I watched a few of Steve's videos, one in which he is playing "Like Us" by Psyph Morrison. Like always it slammed, I was like, "Damn, I need to download this in my new system!". So as always I uploaded it into Audacity and to my surprise, it peaked at 40 hertz at 10-11 dB. How could this be? It looked like the song slams? Most of Psyphs other songs, for example "Turn it up" peaks at 38 hertz I believe at 20 something dB.

Someone help me out here. Maybe it does slam? I'd try it but I don't have a system ATM. I don't know, but almost all other songs I downloaded that peaked at 10 dB in the past, sucked in the bass department.

What's the deal with "Like Us"?

edit: I got the mp3 from the link Steve posted here on SMD.

If you don't even have a system yet, how can u accuse this song of not "slamming?"

well in steves truck he probably peaks right around 40 hz. you do realize that it doenst need to be 30 hz and below to be loud right. And that 99.9 percent of music that has not been played with like decaf does or by chopping and screwing does not play that low. just because it slams at 40 hz doesnt mean it wont bang out. it just means it may not be suited for your system especailly if you are one of the ones who likes to tune to 17 hz and what not.

Did you highlight many parts? Sometimes there are parts in the songs that the bass is fading out of. Highlight a few different spots. Also only highlight one second of the song. Gets you a more accurate reading. I use to highlight Decaf's stuff over a 20 second window seeing 17, 18, or 19 dB. Then I read to highlight one second and noticed the songs were at 22-25 dB.

I am not talking about the frequency, I am talking about the decibels it peaks at.

I would expect a song of Psyphs to peak higher than 11 dB?

On paper it doesn't slam, or so I thought.

My correlation, in Audacity, was that the higher decibels the frequency peaks at the louder the bass will be.

Is this conclusion false?

Memphis understands what I am talking about, lol.

I'll go scrutinize the track closer, I'll post what I find.

Highlight one second. There are plenty of songs that are around 23 dB, while others are around 20 dB. The 20 dB sound louder because it's closer to your tuning or frequency range.

It's a combination of frequency/dB that will determine the loudness from vehicle to vehicle.
