BanginOnABudget Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Step One: Amplify by -8 dB Step Two: ctrl+A then ctrl+c to select all and copy. Step Three: De-select the track, and paste a copy of it Step Four: Select one of these tracks, click on the left of it to select it, and equalize it. Step Five: On the EQ, expand to find the 60hz mark, click this point to put a tack in it, then drop the EQ off at this point. Save this EQ curve as "Lows" and apply curve, this removes everything from 60hz up on a 12db slope. Repeat this step to the other track, but instead of removing everything above 60hz, remove everything from under 60hz. Depending on how clipped the tracks are, you may need to do step five twice. Step Six: you have completely removed all clipping, but your tracks amplitude is very low, BUT DO NOT, AND I REPEAT, DO NOT AMPLIFY AT THIS POINT! Step Seven: Select EXPORT from the menu, this will combine both the lows and the highs into one track. Step Eight: Import the track you just Exported, ctrl+a to select all, And select Amplify. If it says you can amplify by 6.3dB, amplify by 6.2dB. You want a new amplitude of -0.1dB This is it. you just made an un-clipped track. This whole process will only take you like 4-5 mins (while waiting for the program to eq, amplify, import, export, so on) im taking out my passenger seat, battery is disconnected, going to unwire and take out the three amps, take out the 70+ lb box, then the platform so i can crimp 1 wire. fmedina Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 Wow thanks man. This is what I wad looking for. A step by step process. I'll give it a try when I get home. Thanks again bangin
fmedina Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 Another quick question. How do I find out what frequency the songs play at?
Decaf Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 audacity has a LPF and HPF for a reason, theres absolutely no reason to use the eq when "removing clipping", waste of time and less accurate and the song is no way near as loud as it once was, but that can be fixed (and the process does not work all the time, u can stop red lines from showing up, but it can still sound bad depending on the severity of the clipping to start)

I love your work btw man.
Decaf Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 years ago a kid on here discovered the infamous DJSNT method stated above by banginbudget, but again it simply doesnt work with all songs. i purosely clipped songs, used that method and yes there are no red lines, but it can sound just like it did before, just quieter and not red it really does work well but when u go to amplify at the last step u will notice the highs will always be the closest thing to clip first... so running the declipper or some form of limiter will lower those tiny spots that are almost 0db, this gives u more room to amplify or bass boost and bring it back to its original loudness use the steepest slope u can (-24db+) so that there isnt a frequency range being affected by both the LPF and HPF (which is what an eq is in a sense when u can pick the frequency and the slope) during the making of many early zips i had no idea about that process, songs were done YEARS ago. so as time allows im going back through to see what needs some cleaning
kr15 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Decaf does great work in this regard, so I leave this kind of stuff up to him...I tried audacity once and was stumped.. Team Flex Issues Low tuning > God 2011 CALI AS1 STATE CHAMP
BanginOnABudget Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Sorry decaf, im new to the whole mastering out thing x.x the slope is 6db/octave tho, right? im taking out my passenger seat, battery is disconnected, going to unwire and take out the three amps, take out the 70+ lb box, then the platform so i can crimp 1 wire. Decaf Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Sorry decaf, im new to the whole mastering out thing x.x the slope is 6db/octave tho, right? no need to be sorry, i tried telling mr slownthrow the HPF/LPF is faster/easier/more accurate but i dont think the point was taken saves about 2minutes on every song do the lpf and hpf @90hz, -24db slope of higher
