Especially when you sit in the drivers seat (port) we played quite a range of songs and although it's not necessarily the loudest on lows below 30hz it plays them. Sealed up above 40hz is quite loud! P I was thinking about it.. I'm no expert on 4th orders but you probably gained so much because you took away airspace when you took out the dowel rod. That and reinforcements made you gain.
