I want more headroom...

Hey, i'm currently running 4 RFp1 10" subs in my car, running on a T500.1bdcp @ 2ohms. Its pretty damn loud, but I feel like it should be alot louder. I have a sony head unit with 2v preouts. I keep the HU's subwoofer level control on 0/10 at all times, however if I do turn it up to 10, it sounds the way i always want it to sound. I'm kinda scared to use the sub control. I know that using bass boosts can add clipping to the signal, but is the sub controller really considered a "bass booster"? What exactly does it to? Does it increase the preouts voltage signal? Will it send a filthy signal to my amp and subs?

I also have a cheap audiopipe line driver sitting in my room. Should i install this to see if it helps?

I asked people at the 'stereo shop' and 'auto expressions' but none of those idiots know what they're talking about, so i figured id come to the real experts.

no it isn't. the sub control is a level control for the output. at 10 you are getting all 2v from the output. a bass boost raises the gain at a particular frequency.

a cheap line driver will likely introduce more distortion than anything...don't use it. If you really want headroom get a bigger amp.

I am kind of in the same boat as you man, I am always scared to turn my system up a tad bit more only because I am new and don't have the experience with it. I can say though, if your amp is set properly, and you know when your HU clips, you can put it all the way to there without any problems. I have 425 Watts at 4 Ohms to 2 10" jbls, my Hu is 35 max vol and my sub rms at 260. I normaly put my HU vol to 30 just because I was to scared to put it higher and damage my shit, but I realized that if my gains are set properly, the only thing that could happen is my subs would fry from to much power, but I am not even meeting their rms. So I can put it even loader!
