I installed some DDM tuning 55w 8k (also ordered the wiring harness) HID's on my 95 thunderbird and i love them so far, but i am having a little problem, when i first turn my headlights on, they flick on really quick then go off, so i turn my lights off then back on and they stay on, its just kind of annoying and i was wondering what could be causing this problem?

im having the same general problem. 55w 6k, ive noticed that one 99% always comes on when i start the car (right bulb) but one doesnt (left). switched ballasts, same problem. switched bulbs, now the right one doesnt go on when i start. so it seems to be a problem with the bulbs. im calling them tomorrow but ive made sure everything is 100% connected. but i ordered the wiring harness. only $15, they recommended it and should power the bulbs good, direct from battery. if its just the bulbs then ill keep it anyway so i know that everything is good. hopefully its just the bulb, but ill respond back on here when i figure out whats wrong. hope this helps!

Something with the ballast perhaps

My friends HID's have a bad ballast, so in the morning he has to flick the lights on and off a few times because the right one doesn't like to stay lit right away.

Do you have a relay harness hooked up? If not, then I'd seriously suggest it. An HID ballast, much like a flourescant light, takes more power to start up than it does to run. Sometimes the bulbs don't get enough juice flowing through stock wiring to start them up when the car is off. A good battery relay harness usually takes care of that problem.

First off call DDM, they will do everything they can to help you resolve this over the phone. Just make sure you have time and are on a phone where you can mess with the car while they are on the line.

Second...sounds like an electrical issue. I have seen HIDs not fire because of the initial current draw. The stock wires are not always adequate. Try this on a cold start and when you would normally run into the issues you are having. Try holding the RPMs up just a little before you turn the lights on. If they fire right up I would suggest you get the relay harness.

woah sorry guys, kind of forgot about this topic

first off i do have the relay harness so that shouldnt be an issue its hooked up right because my HIDs do work its just on initial start up and turn on they flick on and go out.

sometimes its both, sometimes its just my right one that goes out, its just sort of annoying having to turn my lights on and off multiple times just to get them to stay on, but i will try what you guys suggested.

@dubpower, i believe i may have touched the bulbs im not sure, i've had my hids for probably 4-5 months now. i have been thinking about ordering new bulbs with a high beam though, so i'm not stuck with just low beams

My brother had this issue in his 300C, he said something about a capacitor mod to fix it? Then again, his are computer-controlled so a different animal there perhaps.

Oh, do you have daytime running lights? That can fuck with HID's hardcore.

Too many projects, too little time...
