supremeaudio13
I'm going to purchase a 3.5K and Im debating whether to run it at 0.5 or 1 ohm... Its going to power 2 xl 18's. For electrical I currently have a 200 amp Mechman Alt, Kinetik 1400 and 2400.. ( switching out for XS D975 and 1 or 2 D3100) I guess I'm just curious if theres any specs at what these "3.5k's" really put out at 1 ohm and even at 0.5ohm (before rise, or specs after rise doesnt matter), and what you guys would do or if you run one 0.5 daily. Thanks! Also Im guessing running it at .5 voids the warranty ? Edited April 19, 2011 by supremeaudio13
TeamHT
Why does it need to be run at .5 ohm? I don't understand this way of thinking...if you need more power (you really dont) get a bigger amp. Or is it because of the coil configuration? bassinblazer
That is why I roll with D4 VCs in my daily whip....I would rather push 1 ohm than .5 ohm on a daily, that is for sure. Too hard on stuff. You could also just run 18V and get some extra juice out of it! Quote BassinBlazer JL[RF][Kenwood][AQ] I need a new amp! Sell me your amp! supremeaudio13
It would partially be because of coil configuration.. I mean, I could just get the sub reconed to D2 I suppose.
bassinblazer
BTW I think the DC amp will handle it. It is a pretty beastly amp. But, I agree with above, I would probably get more amp and run a little higher impedance. Quote BassinBlazer JL[RF][Kenwood][AQ] I need a new amp! Sell me your amp! ryderonthestorm
Your electrical wont be able to handle the 0.5 ohm load IMO. Dont wanna blow your amp bro. dwright27
Bassin blazer? Why woul you recommend and 18 volt setup? Dumbest suggestion made today award. If he doesnt know if he can run .5 ohms why the hell should he run an 18 volt system? Haha.. well with all the uncertainty I suppose Ill just scratch the idea and run at 1 ohm.. I know the amp can definanetly handle it (0.5), and I feel my electrical could as well... But Ill just either re-cone or sell it and buy 2 new ones with the correct coils. f0zter
I think you should try it. Wire it up, turn it up slowly and Watch your voltage if it drops under 13 volts with the vehicle running unhook it. Wire it up, turn it up slowly and Watch your voltage if it drops under 13 volts with the vehicle running unhook it. Why if it drops under 13v? I haven't heard of an amp smoking at 13v... Refer to my quotes for some info from Boon on low voltage and amp damage.
