JZeFF
I switched from an Alpine 9887 to a Pioneer x920bt. My first thought was to ground the RCA's to the HU chassis, but the RCA connections are not directly on this HU, they are extended about 6 inches off. None of the wiring changed, just the HU. Could it be because the 9887 had 4v preouts and the 920bt has 2v preouts? And if you think thats the reason, can you reccomend me a decent/cheapish line-driver? smgreen20
I believe that the 920BT has 4v as well. I used to have one. More then likely the pico fuse inside the HU blew. Pioneers of that run had a major issue with that. I was lucky with mine. I didn't have that problem. If at that point you have whine, a line driver will only worsen the case. smgreen20
BTW, shouldn't this also be in the HU section and not the speaker section. It was after all, the HU you changed, not the speakers. I have a 920 BT almost new in the box sitting at my shop because it kept popping the internal fuse and doing what he said... Pioneer fixes it each time because it is under warranty, but after the 4th time doing that, I replaced it with a different model and no problems since... Freshman6969
all of pioneers h/u's produce ground noise from the RCA's i think, mine does, hence i need a new one lol Quote Legal TL scores145.6 on the dash sealed up in the low 40hz area with the port out145.5 on the dash sealed up @30hz with the port inless then 1k clamped on a 3.5k! JZeFF
I do apologize for it being in the wrong section, I will try to open it up and check out the small fuse. Mods can move it if they would like. I think I clicked the wrong section when I posted it. Also just checked the pioneer website, x920bt had three 2v preoutd, they are not 4v Edited April 24, 2011 by JZeFF Quote Pioneer x930 bt Rockford t2500 bdcp 18" nightshade v1 DC audio 175.4 RF power T162s up front, infinity 3 way 6x9's in the back (removing rear stage and re-doing doors soon) 3x XS power D2700's Knukonceptz 0awg all around
notorious97200
You can still ground the rca's; it will reduce the bad noise a lot. But it may not be enough for you ! I had this pico fuse problem on my prs 88, and did not find replacement fuse; no more warranty. I found someone who just replace the blown pico fuse with a piece of wire with a small resistance (or something like that, I am not an electronic guy !!!). No more noise at all, and my h u was like new. I have it for 3 years now. You don't need any line driver. Just set the gain right on your amps. BassJunkie
I've only seen like 3 pioneers that don't produce ground noise, there's a pico fuse in the head unit that gets blown from swapping rca's 'hot'. Quick fix that I do that works everytime, strip a 6-8" piece of speaker wire put it on one of the screws on the back of the head unit then wrap it around rca's making sure it touches the outside of each one the take the excess and bolt it down on the back of the head unit.
