Afterparty
My car has a 2.0 liter, straight 4 cylinder engine and I can't find any alt more than 220 amps for it. Is this because alternators that produce more amperage put too much stress on the small engine? Dual alts are pretty much out of the question, right? BeatBox
i have a 98 integra ls and i had the same problem, 200-220A alts no problem but i wanted bigger, finally found me 300A alt another thing since the bigger ones arent as common they do cost an arm and a leg
Monergist
Did you really expect to find mass produced 300A alternators for a 2 liter engine? Call Mechman (865-522-6166) and DC Power (951-509-5617) and see what they can make for you. And no, higher amperage does not put more stress on an engine. In terms of dual alternators, anything is possible when dough is abundant. Monergist
@Beatbox, it would help if you told him where you bought your alternator.. rusty959
Its probably more the small size of the engine/engine bay than the 2.0 liter deal. You could do dual but you would likely somehow have to fab something up yourself. tonedeaf
DCpower told me the reasoning is because they cant really be much bigger since the limited space you have in the bay to have a bolt in replacement. Something about they have to spin and work harder then the larger case GM alts. In my civic you can run dual alt, but you will probably need to lose your A/C for it. I think DC power offered a 260 amp alt for my 4 cyl though, id try them. Ive heard good things about beatbox's alt company from a few buddies.
