really guys? thats 6.28 square inches of port per cubic foot if the box is 2 cubes.

i wouldnt ever build a box with such little port. will it work? sure. i mean prefabs work after all. they just suck. :shrug:

how are you getting that with no length or tuning frequency? or did i miss something

Yes you can use a 4 inch port. The reason people use bigger ports is the smaller the diameter (regardless of the length) the more your port will sound like a whistle.

A 4 inch diameter port should be fine with a 12 inch sub.
