Running wires through the firewall

Recommended Posts

My GM vehicle already had an opening through the firewall; straight from the factory. Check to see if yours has the same thing. Otherwise, post some pictures of the engine compartment and we'll help you choose a spot.

I think your engine may be the same as i had with my 1998 oldsmobile 88. Look at the right side of your firewall and follow your throttle cable (i believe thats what mine was) and it goes into a rubber grommet thats the size of a half doller coin. I used that grommet and cut a huge hole in it and fed my 1/0 wire right through it with no problems.

If you would like i can post a pic of how i ran the wire.

I have found very few cars with pre drilled holes. I would put it on the side with the battery, and close to a landmark, so you know you wont drill into anything important. just a tip, use a uni-bit if you dont already have one.

if you could post a pic of how you did it that would be great. i have yet to find a spot to run wire anywhere.

your hood latch cable could also work, they usually have a hole big enough to put some wire thru :good:

I think that's what it was for me to run the wire through. It was on the opposite side of my battery in the engine but the grommet was big. And I put my fuse holder on the support bracket that goes from my driver to passenger side strut tower. Ill post pics tomorrow but its gonna be late.
