Thats why I asked what they are trying to achieve with sound deadening.

A lot of people think it's some sort of magical dB increasing product...

just wwas wondering jon but why is fatmat rattletrap not as good?

i mean only thing i had to compare it to was dynamat and it seemed thicker and didnt smell at all i was actually really pleased.

so i was just curious because im planning on getting more for different areas

FatMat uses a "rubberized" compound (a mixture of asphalt and or bitumen and rubber), where as the other products mentioned use butyl or are mostly butyl with some fillers added.

I don't need to explain the difference between rubberized compounds and butyl, correct?

See those little slots above the magnet? Fill those with oil. Its just like an engine. Change it every 3,000 songs and/or 4 months.

I have a 2001 Accord Sedan and just finished putting (2) Stinger RoadKill Bulk packs in the doors, floor and below the package tray (where the 6x9's are). It made a HUGE difference in sound and gave me a more pure mid range sound. I highly recommend getting something like the few brands named above.

BTW, it takes around 30-40Sq to do the doors right with 3 layers.

YIKES! Seems like a bit of overkill to me. Is this an SPL comp vehicle or a daily driver?

You should be able to efficiently sound deaden most any door with 8 sq. ft. of material, possibly less, just depends on the size of the door.

Very few instances require multiple layers of sound deadening (omitting SPL vehicles).

The accord is my daily driver. I work on Cadillacs and wanted to match the same sound they have on the freeway with my own car. I like driving and not letting anything interrupt my music.
