    this is coming from all of my farming experience, yes i live in iowa ive never believed in gestation crates being they are 2 foot by 7 foot and the sows are locked there most of their life. the sows can not move really and it adds more way more stress then it solves. the reason some farmers use them is to prevent the sows from fighting. another problem being the grate below that their waste goes into rarely gets cleaned because the farmers simply dont care because they are a big enough operation that they think they are better and dont have too. the sow will eventually get moved into a farrowing crate which is a tad bit wider so the sow can lay on its side and feed piglets endlessly. this isnt healthy for the sow or piglets. /rant
