18abVFL Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 just bought an American Bass 80.1 off my buddy today. it does somewhere in the ballpark of 1000-1300 rms at 1ohm. I threw it in my car and started tuning it up right away. It was kinda wierd; the bass didnt get LOUD until around 7/10 on the gain knob. Most amps (that i've personally dealt with) start to thump good on 4/10. I feel like having the gain this high is going to clip my subs. Has anyone else ever encountered a problem like this? 1999 Monte Carlo Sony CDX-GT34w 2 Alpine Type R 12"s in 4 cubes tuned to 35hz American Bass VFL 80.1 amp @ 1 ohm (probably doing between 1000 and 1300rms) Stock alt, Stock batt, Big 3 Upgrade Boston s55- 5 1/4s (doors) Boston s95- 6x9s (rear deck)

TeamHT Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Could also be wiring incorrectly, headunit provides low voltage preouts, and like stated above. You may very well be clipping, and I am curious how you are setting your gains Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
