Class a/b almost seems punchier to me and class d is sloppier, not by a whole bunch and I've never tested side by side an a/b amp and a d amp from the same company but I'm just curious as to what you people think. 1986 C20 Suburban 9 American Bass XFL 15's B2 M1MKII 14v XS Power Batteries Maxwell Caps Acoustical energy is free. ISO Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Its not just dampining factor it has to do with how the whole output section is designed. Yes A/B amps have better SQ than Class D. Class D has a much higher amount of distortion but as things evolve or have evolved over the last 12 years Class D is catching up. The key to a class D design that has incredible SQ are the amps that have built in DSP switching devices. In Theory The Kicker Warhorse should have the best SQ a software writer can write and the 2 Brazilian amp companies should also have very good SQ because they use computer hardware to control the output section and that allows the switching to be incredibly fast. Faster than any mosfet available. Some of my amplifier terms could be worded wrong but this is the jist of amplifiers to come. EDIT; I guess the proper term would be a DSP microprocessor or a digital microprocessor implemented into controlling the output section of a Class D design.
