Supercharged DCs Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Been wondering this for a while. Say you have a single 8 hitting 150dB at 30hz, and a single 18 hitting lower, say 148dB at 30hz. Which is moving more air? This may be a retarded question, in which case I apologize for my stupidity. But it's something that's been on my mind for a while now, figured id ask. hdorre Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Yes, the 18 could hit lower (I assume you mean on the same power) if the box is more inefficient and has poor port area/tuning. Louisiana Bass Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Don't think that's the question mate. He's wanting to know which moves more air, an 8 or an 18, when the 8 is hitting a little higher. Quote N8. No homo...unless you want there to be.
hdorre Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Ah, I missed that.. I read it too fast. Nice catch. I assume it depends on much more than just cone area and what the TL says. I'm not going to completely talk out of my ass, so ill just stop now lol Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread
Winn Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 assuming the 18 would Quote You know how you avoid that? Man the fuck up and bang her best friend sister mom cousin worst enemy and never look back. JUST SAY ANTI-AUDIOPIPE
baller95 Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I'd go with the 18 because it's got a bigger cone area which means it'll move more of the air around it. Anyone agree? Quote

Supercharged DCs Posted June 6, 2011 Author Report Posted June 6, 2011 The logical answer seems to be the 18, but how would the 8 score louder on the same frequency? It would have to do something to get a higher reading than the 18. This is all hypothetical of course, can someone with knowledge answer my question? Quote Bassless once again. It would have to do something to get a higher reading than the 18. This is all hypothetical of course, can someone with knowledge answer my question? i think as far as actual amount of air being displaced, yes the 18" would move more air. the reason the 8" might hit higher score though is that it may be more efficient in the box it's in and may be moving a smaller amount of air at a greater amplitude, thus resulting in a higher score. that's my logic on the topic. but who knows, maybe i'm just talking out of my ass Quote Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. My temp system build log More box buildssome cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches! I'm with captain stupid.
Supercharged DCs Posted June 6, 2011 Author Report Posted June 6, 2011 It's possible your right, I'm sure the actual answer involves all kinds or physics and big words.
