3kout Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 I was brushing some dust and crap off the woofer (Alpine Type R) and I was pressing slightly firm while I did so around the spider and I heard a crack, and then I noticed that there is a small crack along part of the spider, I thought it was stitching at first but I'm pretty sure it's a crack. Is there anyway to fix it? like put some glue over the cracked area?

You can't recone the type R so thats no option, and glueing it would be a bad idea. So i don't think you can do something about it, maybe others know. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.

3kout Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 No not really, camera quality isn't the greatest and it's awkward as hell to take, but it's 100% not stitching, definitely a split.
Amerrricuh Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 the reason for a spider to crack like that is the box. if you are playing notes way lower than what the box it tuned to it will start splitting the spiders. for example my old box for my 18" was tuned to 41hz. i played alot of low notes on it. so when i made a new box and pulled out the sub it had the same splits but not as bad as yours. edit: port length and port area also play a big part in that.
