Many Questions.

Hello.

This is my first post and many of these questions are pretty nooby but please bear with me lol

1. Here is a box I made in sketchup (my first time) and I was wondering if there was away to remove the board that is seperating the ports or if that would affect sound quality or tuning.

2. The box is tuned to around 33hertz. Is there a better number?

3. In your opinion do you think Kickers L7 or Kickers CVX15 would be a better sub.

4. I blew one of the L7s in my truck that I have a ZX1500.1 hooked up to and now the amp shuts off at around 1/4 volume. Could the sub be causing it to go in to protect? This amp has no fuses? Why?

1. yes you can remove the board in the middle BUT, you would have to make each bend half the width of the center after the board is removed, and yes it would change your tuning. if its at 33hz now, it will probably go up to 34 or 35 if your just increasing the width by 3/4 total.

2. Tuning frequency is all according to what sort of sound you are looking for and what the manufacture recommends.

4. If you have a blown sub on that amplifier i would go outside right now and disconnect it. its probably shorting and the amp is going into protect because resistance is dropping too low.

Edit:

To be more elaborate on the first response, say the width of the port in the center is two inches, you want each bend to be half that, so one inch. you're increasing the width by 3/4 by removing that board, so each bends width should increase by 3/8 of an inch.

First thanks for replying and helping me. I went right outside after reading this and unhooked the sub. The amp I had before this one had the same problem this one does so I unhooked it and sent it in for a new one cause I thought it was messed up. I guess it was just the sub?

So instead of adding 3/8 could I just make the box 3/4 shorter and just have a 4" port instead of a 4 3/4?

As long as the port bends are half the width of the center, but also if you make the box smaller its going to change your tuning again. which speaker are you using?

Well I had the Kicker L7s in the kicker box. Its the Kicker DSl712 I think. Anyway, I had a warrenty with them through Vminovations and they said I could switch from the kicker L7s to the CVX 15s. So I havent decided yet. I have a few days. Witch would you recommend?

just think of it as the same sub but one is is circle and one is a square. its more complicated than that, but to just keep it simple. and some people like one or the other, but its the basically the same sub other than the shape. Myself id take the square ones but the circle ones will be easier to cut out holes for when ur building ur box, idk if it matters to you or not. but then again, if i were you, i might take the round ones just to do something different..

Thanks for the info P4Killer. From what I heard the cone area on a 12 L7 would be around the same as a CVX 15? I guess that would make sense though. lol I think Ive decided to just keep the squares. I also decided Im gonna build a box I canput the squares in for SPL contests. What tuning would you recommend for SPL? Also I think I may make a build log for my truck. I got alot of pictures.

EDIT: I also got the sqaures in the kicker boxfor $450 because of a mis-listing on ebay. They are now selling the same thing (11DS12L7)for $799:P
