00hoe88 Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 alright so hypothetically lol lets say i had a brain fart and hooked the positive up to negative and negative up to positve from amp to sub i assuming i was right proceed to turn up the volume then hear distortion and the sub bottoming out quickly turn off head unit then i smelled stinky coil is there a good chance that the coil would be messed up head unit - pioneer DEH-P5100UB subwoofer - nothing speakers - powerbass components amp - nothing

RooTxBeeR Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Doing that will not harm your sub at all, all you did was just switch the polarity of the sub. Before it would move in then out. Now it moves out then in, in a short sense. Mostly this is used when inverting a sub so that it plays like it would if it were mounted inside of the box, no worry with what you did though, youll be fine.
