my buddy bought a sub/box/amp setup off of audiosavings. every connection is soldered. the subs are dual 4 ohm and are wired in series/parallel to 4 ohms, bridged to a 2 channel power acoustik (this was a replacement for a kenwood amp that actually came with the kit that we thought was bad). both amps go into protect at very low volume. i verified that the subs are wired at 4 ohms multiple times, using diagram from the12volt.com.

but when i put my DMM on the speaker wires, the ohm load is all sorts of fucked up

heres the meter attached to the amp speaker terminals with the speaker wire attached (subtract .8ohms for internal resistance)

Might be a noob suggestion, but is it possible one or both of the subwoofers is blown, causing a low nominal impedance?

Bassless once again. Can't seem to keep a system for more than a few weeks :)

Saving for a '06 Nissan 350z, look for build around June 2012.

thats what i was thinking, but i dont know if its related to how both subs make a buzzing-type noise when playing music. only buzzes whenever the song plays bass notes. when idling the subs are quiet

I'm not that handy with electrical tools, but isn't it possible to take the DDM to each subwoofer terminal to see what it reads? I'd try it out.

it looks like the dual 4 subs are wired fully in parallel causing a 1 ohm resistance at the terminals. that would cause the amps to go into protect

well i had a similar issue (Same sound and everything) so i took it into dukes (before i found out about SMD of course :D)

they hooked up the DOM to the subs terminals and found out that one was blown

- keep in mind im still learning so i may totally be off but i figured id try to put in my 2 cents to help

ill definitely check that out next time i see him. i would have done it tonight but it is way to dark out to solder/unsolder things.

i was just making sure you didnt wire it like this 2_4ohm_dvc_1ohm.gif

the best way to make sure your subs are good would be to pull them out of the box and put the dmm to each coil to make sure they read around 4 ohm

i believe 6berry is right i think that the one that wasnt blown was reading about 4 on each terminal-
