ANL fuse as makeshift distribution block

Recommended Posts

So my neighbor came over and checked out my system since he heard me bumping it while setting my EQ, and started talking about his JL system, 3 w6's I believe, and he has them running off of 1 amp per sub, didn't catch what amps he's using, but he said that he's got 0ga running from the battery to the ANL fuse in the back, and 3 runs of 4ga running from the fuse to the amps. My question is, how much of a risk is he running by doing it that way instead of using a real distro block? I'm assuming he's got a high enough rated fuse or else it would've blown by now.

I think the only fuse in his system is this ANL/distro area, which is in the trunk.

I left that alone because I doubt that I'll be running any aux inputs. I would say to tune it 1/4 or 1/3 of the way though, that's what I'd do since any aux inputs, ipod, phone, other mp3 players, play at a lower volume on my h.u.

But did you have a fuse near the battery too?

Ps, I'd multiquote, but I'm on my phone.

if you hook up multiple wires and fuse for their total capacity, that is bad. so if he has a 300amp fuse that had 1/0 on one side and three 4awg wires on the other side and one 4awg wire shorts out, that single 4awg wire will melt before the fuse blows. the proper way to do it is to have a distro block with 3 separate fused outputs.

oh and if there isnt a fuse close to the battery that means that if the 1/0 wire shorts out anywhere then there is no protection and it will cause a fire.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

Outstanding, that's the info I was looking for cuz it pretty much confirmed my theory. I'll relay the advice to him, but in the end, it's up to him whether or not he takes the advice. Appreciate it man :good:
