nCOMP1337 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 ok, i could be wrong but according to FIs site, the SD or effective cone area of a fi x 12 is 481 cm^2 which is roughly 74.56 in^2 so, shouldn't your port area be 74.5 times 2 which is 149, or you could go with 150 to for easier measuring like i said i could be wrong, but i thought it went off the SD of the subwoofer

brent379 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 12 wide by 16 high would be more realistic but its the general idea.... So does port area equal the width times the height of the port??
nCOMP1337 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 edit: you posted before i noticed, LOL yes wide x deep is the port area, then times that by the length gives you total volume, but its the wdith and depth you need to know for port area 12 x 16 is about 28% larger than your port area really needs to be a 15 x 10 port area should make that easy to work with 15 being the dimension the baffle would be with and 10 being the depth now would you want it firing UP or to the side, i ve seen it done both ways with good results, but never seen a tline in a truck, but ive seen firing up into the corner with good results on a normal ported design above window line if firing up id say, sub up and port up, 2 bends and then the last one would change direction to fire in the same direction as the sub is facing, based on width of your truck should get you near your tuning would be roughly 22.5 inches tall overall, 16.5 inches deep and however wide your truck is, you wouldnt have to use entire width, but as logn as you get desired tuning you can also taper the line a bit if you need to, there are other ways to design the tline rather than just a constant port area, though constant port area is my favorite its also the largest of the designs of the tline i believe
IH8PunkRok Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 constant line area is the most idiot proof -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build
Sanitarium Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 You are really making this harder then it has to be. Kynto is right by using the SD. You can't measure from surround to surround and call it done as its a CONE, not a Flat CIRCLE. Sound travels at 1130 feet per second. Divide that by desired frequency then divide by 4 to get the length you want. Most people use the fs of the sub to get the frequency they want. simple, done. It you still can't figure it out stop asking us and go back to 5th grade math class.
nCOMP1337 Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 constant line area is the most idiot proof you are right sir, LOL if i hadnt run out of graph paper i may do a quick sketch, i need to print more graph paper off (yes i make my own, store just doesnt have the size i want, LOL) suppose could throw a sketch up together though
IH8PunkRok Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 couple of other notes. you can "tune" above the fs of the sub but never below you can have less port area than the sd but never more play under "tuning" at your own risk tlines have no back pressure and will allow a sub to unload very quickly make the airflow in the box as smooth as possible and do not have any air leaks. it ruins the enclosure. majorly -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build
