watabeast
So im putting 2 15 inch Re SXX in a aero ported box. Would it be overkill if i used 1 inch mdf, braced it and doubled up for 2 inches on where the woofer is mounted?
zx10intn
overkill is relative lol, i would just use 3/4 and double baffle with bracing if it were me, but hey, if you want the 1" go for it, just make sure you have a back brace handy, that shit is heavy! graham0599
Overkill is underrated. It won't hurt at all but isn't necessary. ALPINE408
there is no such thing as overkill in car audio just fyi Quote Have you ever had your woofers blown?
techforce
I would use 3 layers of 1" birch, steel bracing and 3" steel rods every 8" inside cabinet along with a layer of concrete in between each layer and 1" thick of fiberglass inside and use case hardened steel aero port, plastic flexes.. If you can afford it, buy a couple concrete light poles and cut them down as bracing inside the box instead of the steel rods. Also, use titanium 3/4" bolts to mount the subs that way they don't break. Also... what about deadener?? I would use 16-20 layers of Alpha Damp on EVERYTHING in the vehicle and I would look into installing a stripper pole every 2 square feet to minimize flexing... That would be my ideal setup for what your doing...
techforce
To answer your question.... that might be a lil overkill.... Not really needed... but will not hurt anything... I would rather make it too tough than not tough enough!!!
