When I talked to Matt and Eric the only thing said was that I would have to bend the pipe behind the alt case and it was a direct bolt on. That worked but was only able to use 2 of 3 bolts for the alt. I'm pretty sure that is safe...took it out for about a 20 mile road trip and everything is all good. But my battery light on cluster has not went off. Is this usual? Other than that voltage went up .2 on my front battery and .4 on the rear so I'm pretty happy with that. MECHMAN Posted September 15, 2011 Report Share Posted September 15, 2011 For all of you Explorer owners- Ford has a one-year-only compatibility issue with the alternators that hit right around the time his truck was produced. Inspecting the OEM unit for compatibility is key here, there are 3 different options between 2003 and 2004, overlapping and will even plug in the same but they will not work properly in the place of the other. If anyone ever has questions about which unit they need feel free to email, I can explain it all fairly easily. As soon as this unit comes in I will get it handled for you!
